Thanks for the info ember. It's as good as place as any to begin I guess.
Also, I don't think I need to clarify but just in case. My reference above to MFA cronies isn't referring to people who write all their own content based on first-hand knowledge and experience then frame it in ads.
I'm referring specifically to scrapers such as ehow and the many other non-ending stream of them. I don't want to ruffle feathers here among members who work hard at putting up good content of their own.

I'm with HP. His long experience pretty much mirrors mine.
I really have no problems with AdSense gyrations because at the end of a month, the good/bad days average out.
Traffic is an entirely different matter. Once my traffic from referring sites was around 15%, now it comprises the lions share.
I'll live with it.

Wow, there's a new record for me!
Three out of four of my lowest Page View days of 2013 in one week however this time it's different, all the others were on weekends, this one was on a normal working Thursday.
If G's PVs bore any resemblance to my logs then I could say fine however their metrics look nothing like mine, in fact Thursday was one of my better days of the month ... Not losing data again are we G?

HuskyPup.... your story infuriates me and scares me because I know its coming.
I dont know what secret internal memo's google has, but they clearly have some internal rules that are not published and have clear biases against certain types of sites.
They stopped approving certain types of sites for adsense, even though they have approved them instantly for many years. So the people who got in early get to keep those, the people who are late are rejected. Its a double standard. They have a monopoly and rig the market.
As for you, why not duplicate what your competitors are doing and try to get your rank back? Find a good SEO guy.
We live in a dirty market now, and google doesnt care if good people are getting royally screwed. You are ranked so low now there is nothing to left to lose. Put 1500 links on your page now. Study their link structure, do the same, get back on page 1. Its time to play dirty. Playing nice just gets you F-ed by people who play dirty in this space. Sickens me that just to survive, google is now forcing people to act immorally and game the corrupt system they have setup.

black hat seo is always many steps ahead of those who do white hat seo or none at all
this is how it is. adapt o die.

Best thing to do is to work on getting traffic from other sources. Social, other search engines, direct traffic, advertising, stand on the corner with a sign, newsletter, anything you can think off.
@breeks - Unfortunately, none of those things have made up for the traffic Google used to provide when they were a search engine. Not even close.

You made me smile on this cold and icy day.
As for you, why not duplicate what your competitors are doing and try to get your rank back?
No, no, no, rankings are one thing, genuine customer enquiries are altogether another thing ... I already knew what works best and have been implementing this for 12-15 months as I steadily construct a brand new corporate B&M flagship site.
My B&M sites are not here for instant results, they're here for the very long term for clients and interested Joe Public enquiries.
13 years ago when he did a CSS reconstruct I told him what he should do but he never, realistically, had the time to do it however that's the benefit of hindsight.
Memo to self ... Next time you say you're going to do it right, do it:-)
Put 1500 links on your page now.
No need to, my new flagship site is gathering a nice momentum and already outranking many of the scrapers, the pity is that my trade directory site which has been hit the most has, in several cases, been hit on-target by my new site which I expected it to anyway.
I expect this new site to dominate the sector within 2 years however it does leave me with a bit of a problem and that is what to do with my other example.tld B&M sites because I sincerely expect the new site to soon start hammering at their current rankings and traffic!
I am using AdSense on this site and with two .incs I can remove Google site wide and I feel sure, I just have this feeling in my beer water, that an AdSense alternative is going to appear in the next couple of years.
FWIW my feelings are telling me it's not going to be a massive B/G/Y type of competitor, it's going to be a co-operation between my niche widget magazines, manufacturers, trade associations, retailers, wholesalers, machinery manufacturers, consumables etc.

If I were you, I'd start that network myself. Seriously.

I'd start that network myself.
I was in China a couple of weeks ago at one of our major exhibitions and floated the idea amongst many exhibitors and during seminars and received a fantastic response.
I have more exhibitions to do USA, UK & Russia before convening in Germany at the end of May where I shall be presenting my generalised thoughts from the industry of what they would like to see or have.
Whilst I'm in a traditional industry it moves very fast when it sees an opportunity and there will be plenty of money to establish a working party to report their findings in Italy at the end of September.
Trying to find out trade spending on AdWords is obviously quite difficult however I'm fairly sure the trade will supply pretty accurate information when they see the ideas I have had in comparison to Google.

Back to the subject, yesterday ended surprisingly well, and today looks normal so far. Can't complain here.
7:36 pm on Mar 23, 2013 (gmt 0)
Humming right along here. Normal CTR and CPC if there is such a thing these days.
7:12 am on Mar 24, 2013 (gmt 0)
The 23rd was up 75% on the 22nd which was the worst day for me in about 5 years.
12:09 pm on Mar 25, 2013 (gmt 0)
Here's my new message applicable to any AdSense day now:
"Another day, same old load of crock".
I went through 8 pages of one of my sites a couple of days ago and the SAME ad appeared in the 728 x 90 leaderboard and end of article 336 x 280 at the same time.
Excellent Google, you may as well be a darned newspaper if you're not going to actively change anything positively.

Earnings are not too bad today but suffering a bad case of LCS (Low Click through Syndrome) Hoping it will even out by the end of the day.
12:01 pm on Mar 26, 2013 (gmt 0)
Last fall, I saw a big drop in visitors when Google did it's update and my pages lost many places to crappy rip offs, seemingly thrown together on some sunday afternoon. Slightly recovering from that and now these worries with adsense. My earning are basically cut in half.
I'm not a hobbyist, a lot is riding on my websites income, this is all very serious to me. I have been working on these sites for years, always optimising, making good content and good functionality. But it only seems to go downhill now.
Incredibly , incredibly frustrating. I used to be a big Google fan. Still am, in some ways, but they're not making it any easier.
4:08 pm on Mar 26, 2013 (gmt 0)
9am here and already at double the earnings of all day yesterday. Hope it sticks.
5:15 pm on Mar 26, 2013 (gmt 0)
Yesterday ended bad, but started good. Google giveth and Google taketh away. Today is just dead so far...stuck perhaps?
6:05 pm on Mar 26, 2013 (gmt 0)
> ...stuck perhaps?
Does seem to have stalled out here too.
9:28 pm on Mar 26, 2013 (gmt 0)
Stuck for hours.
9:58 pm on Mar 26, 2013 (gmt 0)
Stuck here too

High cpc in all sites on Tuesday.
11:31 am on Mar 27, 2013 (gmt 0)
Data loss day Tuesday for me especially from the USA:
Clicks 42.3% (2nd lowest of 2013)
CTR 47.1% (2nd lowest of 2013)
It would have been a mega disaster but for my EPC 142.9% !
12:02 pm on Mar 27, 2013 (gmt 0)
Just hit the lowest CTR of all time yesterday. Aarrghh.
9:34 pm on Mar 27, 2013 (gmt 0)
Who remembers Sonny and Cher's "The Beat Goes On"?
Has Google made a bid for The Comedy Store?
What in cyberspace are they up to, unsuccessfully I must add?

1:46 am on Mar 28, 2013 (gmt 0)
Terrible day today and yesterday, I think the childish pissing contest between Spamhaus and Cyberbunker could have something to do with it.
4:03 am on Mar 28, 2013 (gmt 0)
26th was dire and 27th looks like it was dire as well.
5:12 pm on Mar 28, 2013 (gmt 0)
Yesterday was the worst day in history! CTR was 0.10%? ONE click for every 1035+ impressions, with CPC at 0.52 cents? Just dire!
10:23 pm on Mar 28, 2013 (gmt 0)
Dead all day...
3:17 am on Mar 29, 2013 (gmt 0)
Worst CTR of the year here.
10:14 am on Mar 29, 2013 (gmt 0)
3am here and already earnings have nearly equalled all day yesterday.
