Yesterday was the worst earnings day in over two months. :-(

I just managed a 2013 average day's earnings however Page Views were still way down at 65% and in comparison to two years ago that means 30% of the PVs we used to have.

With all the Google-inspired scraped crap out there, as a company, we have now taken the decision to return to much more reliable marketing strategies of trade fairs.

This is quite strange since I remember extremely clearly 20 years ago at a trade fair in Germany me informing everyone of the future and showing my first attempts at a website! Fortunately it was on my hard drive, a 14.4 modem wouldn't have got me very far in those days!

Where am I now? In China at a very large trade fair, end of April the USA, beginning May UK, end of May Germany. This reads just like my diary of 20 years ago except for China:-)

Unlike Google we have real-world employees making real-world products for a real-world market, we can't afford to wait for Google to get its house and algorithm sorted-out because it is very unlikely they ever will.

Far from organising the world's information Google's decided to cherry-pick the better-known subjects for its knowledge engine and leave the remainder like flotsam and jetsam to game the system as best they can...they've given up, it's plainly obvious.

It's been a while since I've posted in here but I thought I best come in and see what's been happening with Adsense.

The start of this month has been pretty slow in terms of falling RPM and CTR which I'm struggling to find out why my only guess is that the quality of traffic that the search engines are sending to my websites are lower.

I'm going to try a little experiment this morning which will probably sound counter-intuitive which is to remove ads from pages that have been getting a lower RPM. I also only ever have a maximum of two ads per page however I am going to try and put that down to one and see if there are any changes to ranking, CTR or RPM.

Has anyone else been experimenting and what have you found?

I started in June 2003 and I have to say the last six months have seen my earnings return to the 2005/6 "golden era". 2008-10 were utterly in the toilet.

I think my earnings have been something like this:

2003: xxxxxxxxxxxxx
2004: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2005: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2006: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2007: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2008: xxxxxxxx
2009: xxxxxxx
2010: xxxxxxxxx
2011: xxxxxxxxxxx
2012: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2013: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (forecast pro rata)

I added a unit in a particular position on a particular type of page in early January and it's been stunning. Makes me kick myself for not doing it three years ago of course.

CPC is up too...up to 80% of 2005/6 levels. That's been the high grade gas/petrol behind my rises, double traffic has been the engine.

All in all, happy and lesson to take from all of this: don't stop trying new things. 9 out of 10 will either fail or make little or no difference. It's the tenth thing that will shock you and up your earnings 40% - and you might end up doing it first!

Just as an illustration of my last post, do an "all time" view, by day, order by earnings, descending.

3 of my all time top 10 days have been in last 2 months. Every other day is 2004/5/6!

Learn something new everyday...had never even thought to look at "All Time" before as I'm so fixated on day to day earnings. My top 10 earning days were all in last 4 months thanks to increased traffic.

So far today is the best earnings day in nearly three months and yesterday was one of the worst. While I'm happy to see the uptick, there's just no way these "daily" stats make any sense.

Six consecutive days of below average earnings.

My CMS image gallery is where the main drop is, since the introduction of "Try these too" on Saturday 2nd March my PVs have averaged 59.9% with yesterday at 55.9%

Thanks Google, you really do know how to F*** things up!

do an "all time" view

That's just depressing, Friday 6th May 2011 shows the date that nasty little Panda should have been minced-up and made into a burger and I still have no clue as to why other than a competitor most probably has a friend at The Plex and I was castrated for a two word term!

LOL, Meg!

My visitors are teachers, students and parents - July for me sucks (as does June and August - like Jamuary thru April for you, I'd imagine). I've often thought of doing a fireworks site here in Florida just to try and round things out but I've visited your sites and I'm not sure I'm up to the task - what an incredible amount of effort you put into them!

Feb 2013 didn't look good. Lower than any previous month in several years (and now I have way more traffic).

Mar 2013 looks worse. Been having:

- normal day earnings
- then LOW day earnings
- then normal day
- then LOW
- then normal
- Really low!
- Then higher, my old average
- then low again

And now steady lows this week

I'm just frustrated with the double (and occasionally) triple adserving of the same ad on the same page. I've seen this before at the end of month's when inventory is low, but this started last week...makes no sense other than Google is playing around with too many tests at the same time.

Traffic is up but revenue is down Seeing lots of ads that don't match content, but who knows what site visitors are seeing. I quit using Google search maybe they are mad at me :)

Yep, I'm pi$$ed off with that as well plus IBAs are becoming a TOTAL pain even though I clear my cache etc on a regular basis.

I was researching SIM card deals a yesterday, not to buy but what data deals etc were available in comparison versus what I have now ... arghhhhh ... "Phone Ads" followed me everywhere to the point where I had to flush that browser.

I know what I'm doing, how the hell is Joe Public supposed to cope?

I've got 4 AM EST numbers... twelve hours later! Easily going to be the worst day since signing on (2005) and that includes two times when my web host went down. Frightfully few clicks and EPC at just pennies.

Thanks for your comments, HP & JC!

Earnings pretty well stuck here for most of the day. Unless there's a big rally in the next half hour, today will close at 50% of yesterday.

Hi Everybody

I was searching for a specific explanation why our earnings have dropped drastically in March and found this forum through google. If I may, I would like to add my experience of the last few days and what I think has happened. Either way, google adsense are up to something again as nothing was changed on our site. For the record, we have 2 websites and together they generate around 700 to 800 clicks per day. However, since the last 2 days, we noticed that our main unit the 728x90 has suddently stopped generating any income. When i look into the reports under the option "platform", i notice that the income for this unit for tablets is still at normal levels but for desktops it has totally plummeted.

I started to check the units on our site and noticed that for some reason the text inside the 728x90 unit is showing in really tiny font, i think its like arial 8 or 9 in size. totally rediculous. I decided to change the unit to an image format temporarily figuring google adsense did something again to the design. I also changed this morning the unit back again to text links (which is what works best for us) and now the units show in normal font size again.

As a result of this, the last 2 days we have received an average amount of 150 to 200 clicks so go figure what that does to your income. January was our best month ever with the release of the arrow in the units, that made the CTR really well, but since mid february, cpc went down 30%, and so did CTR. Today, CTR rates are down 70%. Something is very very wrong and this is happening on both of our sites only with the 728x90 unit.

Just wanted to share this with you guys as there is always a reason. I know allot of people say march is a bad month because of no competition on the bidding end and all that stuff, but going down in income 70% in just 2 days means there is definately something wrong. I emailed support and a contact I have from google adsense, hopefully they reply soon early next week.

You can see here a screenshot of how my ads are looking for the last 2 days. This morning it seems back again to normal, but the clicks are still performing really bad. I have more visits then usual so and my traffic is still the same in terms of organic leads.

https://adsense-a-googleproductforums-com.googlegroups.com/attach/f216be017d561e9/sample1.jpg?view=1&part=2

Anyways, im clueless now and totally disgusted after 2 years a hard work of improving your website and all that crap they sell you on the web in order to increase your income. They make a 2 min change and all your work goes down the drainage.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld kimbodude

I decided to change the unit to an image format temporarily figuring google adsense did something again to the design.

I'm fairly sure no matter what you do Google can override any settings you may make and especially so when thay are experimenting, plus no matter what you may see on your PC/tablet you can be assurred that's not what anyone else anywhere else is seeing.

I know allot of people say march is a bad month

Normally not for me, it is the heavy buying season for my industry however what I am seeing all of a sudden is a lot of irrelevant ads at the moment which must be affecting my CTR.

So to Saturday's pathetic efforts ending up with my 4th worst earnings day of 2013 with metrics considerably down across the board with my USA EPC the LOWEST of the year and down 33.33%.

Since the introduction of the "Try these too" in image search I've not had one 2013 average day, down about 25%, and reading other forum boards etc it would appear that many others have been similarily affected.

Obviously this company has far too much money even to be bothered with the efforts of us mere minions!

Hey Husky

Thnx for your reply.

The reason I mention about the 728x90 is because according to google reports, its the main money maker for my sites. The other reason is I mention the tablet thing is because when you look at my site via the tablet, you still see the arrow buttons in the adsense units where as on a desktop the arrow button is not there anymore and the font is very very small. (it never used to be like that). For now i have removed the ad unit, but it just seems very strange that this started to occur the last 2 days. Since January I have had average 700 to 800 clicks. Yesterday and day before 200. Relevance has always been an issue, but I stil got 700-800 clicks even with irrelevant ads. I am 100% certain google is up to something with that ad unit when viewing from a pc. Its clear from the reporting tool.
