Just saw this when I was checking my account earlier. Full text is;

Recommendations
Create a Google+ page
Creating a Google+ page brings you closer to your audience by letting you have real conversations with the right people, connecting you face to face, and making it easy for people to recommend you on Google search.

Also has a check box to tick to indicate whether or not "you've done this".

Fairly agressive cross-product marketing from Google there - haven't really seen anything like this before. An interesting move, but has an air of desperation about it.

Worth noting that although it's posted as a "recommendation" there's no information or suggestion that it would impact your Adsense account in any way.

coming soon:

You have entered some keywords and pressed "Search". Please create a Google+ page first. Then we'll show you the results: not a moment before.

Oh, you decided not to do this

that's not wise. We're sending the big boys round.

This (yet another) fiasco is another good example and reminder to all of us why this company can not be trusted with your personal information and/or data. A good example of just how fast they can shift and compromise your privacy and business.

So you have a business relation with them and you think that your personal information will stay as it is, "personal!". Wrong!....they want to make this information public now by forcing you (gently) into starting a g+ account.

This bunch is well and truly lost!...These are clearly no longer "innovation", but desperation measures coming from a mismanaged company.

Adwords advertisers are probably next.

How not strange it is that a company that prides itself on automation is faltering so badly when it comes to human engagement.

It's as if it's corporate mind suffers from Aspergers or something else on the autism spectrum.

How not strange that idea is, too.

what would you say is the best alternative to google adsense, which show ads worldwide, be cause this is getting a little scary now, thinking of leaving before its to late.

Im making a test on some of my sites now, where I will try to replace adsense with other and remove the google+ button, its no use anyway.

My "Create a + page" disappeared after I clicked the "Already Did" button, left, and then returned hours later.

Whoops. Sorry. I lied. Its back again!
The "I've done this" box is still checked.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Who in their right minds would come up with such abhorrent ideas.

With all my life of dealing with dozens of small to large size companies (as a client and as a service provider) *never* have i come across a company going down such autistic, pathetic paths.

This is beyond creepy. This is sick and goes against all ethics of privacy and honest/normal business conduct.

Google News just showing items re former Google exec James Whittaker blasting google, on post on microsoft blog. Seems Google+ a massive bugbear of his; post includes:

"innovation had to be social. Ideas that failed to put Google+ at the center of the universe were a distraction."

Lol. :)

Google is getting more like a needy girlfriend. Sure she used to be hot and let us do "stuff" no others would, but her BS is getting old real fast.

I'm sitting here looking at my small network of hobby sites and thinking that although Google is sending 6 figures of visits for free each month and a fairly abysmal Adsense payment, what I'm giving back in return in terms of data and cheap real estate for their advertisers is increasingly more one sided.

Think I'll remove +1 buttons from my sites today - sorry to dissapoint the 1 in 250,000 people that used it (OK, I was the 1)...

I joined here in 2003.

I think I've never seen such vitriol directed at Google in that time.

Yes, I understand, I've always had low expectations.

Others might well disagree. Google won't be monitoring this, merely monitoring the Wall Street ticker price.

What is the market capitalisation of Google? Then delete "intangibles" [a balance sheet term] down to MIB, bricks and mortar etc. etc. less creditors.

OR

What is the "net tangible asset backing per share"?

Bet it's way, way down from Wall Streets present assessment. Shareholders? Check around.

This is gmail deja-vu, when they forced me to open a new gmail account to use as adsense login. I don't dare use that account for anything else as a result.

Turn it off already! I have a page reserved but little time(and even less urge) to use it. I'm not on Facebook either, it's nothing personal G, look me up on MY site if you wish to discuss it.

This "Recommendation" is like SPAM. It's been in my Adsense control panel for days and I can't get rid of it. Receiving increasingly more email from Google, too; seems like more this past year than the six previous years combined that I've used Adsense.

First Google wipes out half my traffic and income ala Panda and now wants me to be their "friend," trying every way they can to force me to use and promote Google+.

"when Larry Page took over as the company’s CEO. 'Social' became Google’s battle cry, and anything that didn’t support Google+ was viewed as a distraction."

Google+ is doomed. I can't find a friend using it. I can't force a friend to use it. I can't teach a friend to use it. Looking on some popular news articles that have tweet, Like, and + the numbers tell it all. Tweets 1k, Likes 3k, +'s 25. This has been a major disappointment, blunder, failure or whatever you would like to phrase it on G's part. I can't blame them for trying but with this new development it seems they see the writing on the wall.
Webmasters brought Google into the world, looks like Google is trying to use webmasters to get Google+ into the world. Problem is Google came to this party way to late and it's already over.

My wife is a Facebook guru I was surprised the other day she made the comment most of her friends 600+ don't get on FB like they use to. I asked wonder why and her comment was they are getting bored with it, have better things to do, and are tired of all the privacy issues. I thought about buying some FB stock but it would be a get in get out thing I see FB saturation point has been met and the decline is going to be starting. I myself don't like FB just not the type to share with the world.

I have since last years big problems with the Panda update, income halved. To correct this,

I tried July very much to promote the plus button on each of my pages.
I engaged since August 2011 much in Plus Google

I have now 2050 followers on Google plus, but my Google situation did not change.

It seems that people click much more on posts on Google than on the plut button on the linkes page.

Now my pages receive maybe 5 plus clicks a month, but my posts on Google plus receive easy 5 plus clicks in one hour.

I hope the plus clicks on the post forwards this power to the linkes page. But until now no effect visible.

Well posted. I haven't put G+ on any of my pages and don't seem to be suffering. G+ is really a non-starter. It's a pathetic attempt and I just wonder who is going to get a serious boot up the arse at the Google plex for ever thinking it could succeed.

Probably no one. This company is suffering from serious mismanagement and plain naive stupidity for a good few years now. The war they have started with webmasters world wide was wrong and will cost them dearly!

Watch their share price drifting south faster and faster now...

This coming from someone who used to *love* Google, the good old helpful and friendly Google...Google the SEARCH ENGINE!

The Google+ failure is a good example of what happens to a product created out of greed instead of real pure love. It is a phony "wanna-be" and that's how the world is always going to view it.

G can continue and force + all they like. People are just not interested in this cr... especially now that Joe public is much more aware of G's serious privacy issues.

Good that they have so many webmasters on their side nowadays....it really helps them educate Joe public.
