I don't think Google's profits increase if they don't serve ads to us - they have a cut remember.
3:02 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
IF it is a bug it would be nice if they put a little note on their adsense blog to say "there's a bit of a problem, the effects are this, we hope to have it sorted within x hours"
Come to think of it where's Adsense Advisor these days?
3:50 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
There isn't one.
3:57 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Then, can you explain what's happening?
(oh, sorry, I think you were referring to ASA and not the bug. Am I right?)
4:04 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Not sure what the protocol is for posting links here (never done it in six years as a member!) Anyways, because there are a number of people with this issue there's a main thread started at Google's forum at [google.com...]

I'm going to start removing ad units because my code is still showing however I am seeing bit fat colour-blended empty spaces. If Google had removed their ads everything would have closed up tightly, no problem, this just looks ridiculous.
Fortunately for me this is a very easy thing to do.
4:06 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
I too am adjusting my higher traffic pages - sticking some amazon and other afiliate stuff in to tide me over/fill the spaces
4:23 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
That looks better, back to 2003:-)
FWIW I've just had a "search" impression come up and my data looks like this:
AdSense for Search 1 0 0.00% — £0.00 £0.00
Excellent day Google, why didn't you do it last Friday 13th? I can hear my beer calling me now:-)
4:43 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
A "response" after how many hours?
5:01 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Been a publisher for 8? years or so.
Ads went down around ~8PM PST last night and still nothing.
Started freaking out and sending Google emails.. nothing.
Switched to backup Adbrite ads for now... still waiting.. 12 hours?
Found this thread and decided to stop freaking out. Im in the US BTW.. though servers are elsewhere.
Registered just to post this btw... thanks WebmasterWorld!
5:18 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
My ads have just reappeared2 minutes ago. Anyone else?
5:22 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Welcome to WebmasterWorld Reinhart
So, you're 8 hours behind GMT meaning your ads disappeared about 4 am GMT?
Yep that's about what I reckoned, now 13 hours with zilch.
Do you think that Google's trying to out-do Blackberry for the non-customer award of the year 2012? Yay, they get my vote every time, they are just unfreakingbelievable!
5:22 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Yep...my ads are back.
5:29 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
From HuskyPups link above...
Bold added by me :)
We've identified an issue with AdSense for Content ads not showing on some publishers' sites.
Apparently I'm one of the NOT affected. No indication in my stats of anything out of the ordinary. Impressions/income normal for me.
5:33 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
I'd like to know how many "some" are judging by the many forum boards on fire today?
Of course Google will accept absolutely no responsibility for their mess-up will they?
5:36 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
My ads are also back. But still no earning / no click in stats.
5:44 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Mine are back as well.. many in this Google thread:
are seeing the same: I want my 10$ back google! (Im sure many of you lost MUCH more than that...) Post here with your losses! heh
UPDATE: Stats are coming back slowly... 51 Pageviews (as opposed to 0)
5:53 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Mine are back too! Lost best part of the day in both Adsense income and my time figuring out what's happening.
6:08 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Post here with your losses!
My traffic and earnings are consistent throughout the day and I was on a good one Thursday.
This is for a new thread but what is wrong with corporate technology America?
First Apple with their iPhone then Blackberry with their outage and now Google with an outage.
Is this how they teach them in business school now? Admit nothing, say nothing, leave many wondering what's happening rather than post a simple "Yes, we know there is a problem, we will post further WHEN we know something and when we do know we shall tell you what happened".
We all know stuff breaks but for multi-billion Dollar corporations burying their heads in sand expecting no one to notice is simply outrageous.
11:23 pm on Jan 20, 2012 (gmt 0)
Well had a little message from Google saying that they had a "brief" outage. (For brief lets say something between 8 and 14 hours).
Nearly at the end of the day and today is my worst day since May 2006. Down by about 80% on last Friday.
Even worse I've spent almost my whole day on this.
My only relief is that at first i thought it was just my account and that I'd been penalized!... and breathe ...
8:25 pm on Jan 22, 2012 (gmt 0)
Me too, same problem started yesterday and continues as I write this. Same traffic, half the ctr and half the earnings I am accustomed to. The 50% lower ctr suggests it's a problem on Google's end with ads not displaying to all users. Page impressions is roughly 2x adsense impressions... they are usually even. Fix it Google.
5:36 pm on Jan 23, 2012 (gmt 0)
Glad I found this thread, as I got hit by this problem earlier this afternoon. Checked my earnings and saw they were very low, so went to my site, and no ads at all on the homepage. I was very puzzled and fearful my account had been banned for some unknown reason. I checked my account and all was in good standing, and found ads appeared on other pages, but for the most part, nothing! Now I get pretty much one advert for a university, but nothing else. I tried blocking the university and it went blank again. If I refresh the homepage many times, I very occasionally get text links appear, but for the most part nothing. It's a nightmare - if people are reporting this a few days ago, surely Google Adsense is aware of a problem and are working on doing something about it?
5:52 pm on Jan 23, 2012 (gmt 0)
@zarathustra2011 do you want a site check for a different country? if so post ur link
5:59 pm on Jan 23, 2012 (gmt 0)
Thanks Nalcro, but I think it's against TOS of this forum to post links?
Some pages display the ads perfectly fine, and ads appear in all sections. On other (similar pages) absolutely nothing appears at all. I've tried different browsers, and that's made no difference.
I'm based in France, and I know people in the UK have been affected, and perhaps in the US too?
6:04 pm on Jan 23, 2012 (gmt 0)
Yeah I think in the US too, I just got a reply to a message I posted on a different forum from a person who is having the exact same problem as you now.

I've sent him a link to this thread so maybe he'll leave you a message to compare problems

It's me Nalcro! :) (aka Banzy)
6:24 pm on Jan 23, 2012 (gmt 0)
Ha ha so basically I was telling you to talk to yourself :-)
6:43 pm on Jan 23, 2012 (gmt 0)
Yes, I'm afraid so! lol.
Unfortunately it also makes me feel more alone in all this!
It seems ads either work on a page or they do not work at all. If the ads appear, they fill each slot, and if nothing appears in one slot, then all slots are empty. There's the odd exception, for the most part it appears to be the case.
6:44 pm on Jan 23, 2012 (gmt 0)
I talk to myself a lot, so I'm used to it. :-)

I just saw this on the official Adsense forum:
We've identified an issue with AdSense for Content ads not showing on some
publishers' sites. Our engineers are working to investigate and resolve
the issue as quickly as possible.
Thanks for your patience in the meantime, and I do apologize for the
