| We’ve actually found that link units with four terms almost always perform better than five. As a result, we’re reducing the number of topics in all link units to four for horizontal orientations and three for vertical orientations. If you’re currently using link units, this change will happen automatically. |

So I wonder why they are reducing vertical Adlinks to three?

They must have tested it (I assume) I never got vertical links to work well, but I make a lot of use on the horizontal links.
Overall the results page looks better too, except if you have a dark background, they're still showing the Google logo in a white box, which doesn't look great.
