February 2011 AdSense Earnings

No problems, I'll start it:-)

Am I supposedly to accept without question that on the 1st February 2011 that global advertisers in my industry suddenly decided to increase their bids and that visitors thought it was a good time to start clicking?

It was my best day since 18th November 2010.

Page impressions normal.

My CTR returned to normal, i.e. pre-Thanksgiving Day

My eCPM returned to normal, i.e. pre-Thanksgiving Day

My EPC retuned to normal, i.e. pre-Thanksgiving Day

My earnings returned to normal, i.e. pre-Thanksgiving Day

I am expected to believe this is a "normal" advertising market?

I don't think it's static across the board, there's probably some clicks that are credited right away, and others that are flagged as "wait, maybe better take a look at those" and show up later.

I just noticed that adsense ads show in all the "instant preview" thumbnails that google is generating for my website. It executes the adsense javascript.
Those are SO many invalid impressions without clicks. My understanding such wrong impressions will get reviewed during the review period (after the month closes), and the earnings will then be reduced with the value of wrong impressions from the thumbnail generator.
The problem is... I think there is a potential that those impressions are throwing off the ad blocks stats - esp. for larger websites where lots of thumbnails are being generated.

Unless there's a rally in the next couple hours, today will be even lower than yesterday. :-|

Folks, why don't you take a look at your traffic? The adsense farm algo has been unleashed by G and do you expect to make your bread from adsense anymore?

People whose voices could be heard at the right places, have managed to convince google (G) to roll out this algo. These folks don't depend on adsense, but they also don't like people making a living with adsense, to trouble them in SERPS.So, a massive campaign was launched to get these sites out of their way and G readily obliged.

Some call it the "Content farm algo" while Brett Tabke here calls it the "algo against adsense farms".

Whatever they call it, one thing for sure is G has harvested/cleaned up the small adsense sites and gave them fresh clear land to sow their seeds!

I couldn't agree more. This "algo against Adsense" seems to have done just exactly what you say - mercilessly killed in a single stroke a whole lot of small and medium Adsense publishers. I have been looking at my traffic since this algo update and am seeing helplessly my earning steadily dwindling.

For the first time in 6 years, I am comparing, in utter disbelief, my Feb 2011 earnings with Feb 2008 and am wondering if all my efforts in building my sites with original contents for last 1,121 days have been wasted.

Friday - Average to good EPC
Page Impressions - Normal
Click volume - 2nd worst day of the month!
Result - About -15% off daily average

You're so up, down, turnaround
Every which way, make up your mind
Up, down, turnaround
Movin' to the left, movin' to the right
Come on, come on you're making me crazy

Been reading about this algo change. Though I don't see it in my stats, my earnings have taken such a dramatic drop the last couple of days that I can't help but suspect my site somehow must be one of those caught in the crossfire. Fun. :-|

Has anyone noticed there eCPM going up since the algo was unleashed? Could it be that since all the big farms are not hogging up all the clicks it is spread out different now?

My sites took a big hit from the algo, making about half of what I was (which is still plenty) but things are not looking too bad so far... will learn, adapt and recover.

This algo change has to have a huge negative effect on Googles bottom line, they have to be losing LOTS of income, there is no way around it.

2004

Old MacDonald had a site,
Ee i ee i oh!

And on that site he had adsense,
Ee i ee i oh!

With a click-click here,
And a click-click there
Here a click, there a click,
Everywhere a click-click

Old MacDonald had a site,
Ee i ee i oh!

2011

Old MacDonald had a site,
Closed due to lack of income.

2010

Old MacDonald had a site,
Ee i ee i oh!

And one morning he got a fright,
Ee i ee i oh!

CTR has gone down here,
And average CPC is down there
Less clicks, low paid clicks,
Everything is down and dipped

Old MacDonald's feeling down,
Ee i ee i oh!

Yesterday earnings came back up to the 50% mark average after being down to 25% for three days in a row. Looking forward to March.

What happened on Sunday? For me Page Impressions, and click volume were almost +20%, overall earnings about average.

Was this the new AdSense for one day?

Today, garbage so far!

HuskyPup you and me must have the same niche...because everytime I read your post, it seems to be a reflection of my site. Today is definately very low compared to yesterday, which was a record for me, for a Sunday...EVER.

Not bad at all Feb 2011. 40% better than Feb 2010 and 10% better off w.r.t the same 28 days in Jan 2011.

Although it is better than Jan 2011 thanks to the Libyan revolution. People searching for that country land in my site and the eCPM has increased considerable comparable with the normal for that channel.

When is Facesense coming out?

Today is looking good even though half of my traffic is "gone with the algo".

Thank you Google for not taking me completely out of the game "yet".

I really thought this month was going to be crappy but it turned out to be ok. I haven't had a single bad day in the last two weeks. Earnings were really horrible at the start of February, but it started to pick up by mid month. Anyway, even though this month was only 28 days, it beat December's earnings by 35% making Feb. the best month ever. EPC, eCPM are up and traffic is up 50% from December. Apparently the recent algo. change also helped my sites with traffic. Let's see what March brings.

Had a good start and end to February, but the rest was a bit of a rollercoaster. Ended with 15% more traffic (c.f. a 28-day January) but a 20% drop in revenue (well, compared to a 31-day Jan). I was surprised to see that CPC was actually pretty much the same in Feb c.f. Jan, but the CTR was a fair bit lower.

Just seemed to have more untargetted and irrelevant ads at times.

The last week of Feb started getting pretty good and March so far has been fine so hopefully March will be looking up.
