The Worst Adsense Xmas Ever
ending the worst year ever in my five year association with Adsense

From an Adsense revenue point of view this has been BY FAR the worst December ever (for me) in a year which can only be described as by far the worst ever.

Without quoting exact figures, I can say I am earning a mere fraction of what I would normally this time of the year. Even my first Adsense year which was previously by far the slowest (before this year) was better performing.

Merry Christmas

Starting in October something weird happen.

[i.imgur.com...] (last 9 months)
[i.imgur.com...] (last 120 days)

My traffic was steady for one site at about 2.1 million page views a month. Then it went up and up.

December is the best month I have ever had with Adsense. *knocks on wood* Also on Christmas Eve, was the best single day ever. Even though on that day, the traffic drop a butt load.

2010

CPM up 10%
CTR down 4%

Pretty steady year over year from 2009. Microsoft technology related site with roughly 90 million adsense impressions this year (one adsense ad per content page).

I'm at 2/3rds of where I was in 2009. About 10% of what I made in 2005. 2011 is definitely time for me to make a change.

So did anyone get a Christmas gift from Google this year? I dragged out the digital photo frame from a few years ago and wrapped it!

XMAS earnings up? Yes
2010 earnings improved? Yes - helped along by a new website that took off.
Have you blocked 3rd party Ads? Yes
Do you allow Placement Targeting? Yes
Do you allow image ads? No
Or Text only? Yes
Have you ever requesting CPM blocking? No

Overall, the CTR is about the same as last year I'd say. Since I started with Adsense when it first launched, CTR has shown a slow but steady decline over the years. But 2010 was the first year really where the CTR was the same as last year - so I take that as a good sign, actually.

Normally, December is one of my worse months for Adsense (ads are run on a "summer oriented" site), so it was a nice surprise to have a bit of a "pop" in earnings.

It was a very good year for us, thanks mostly to increases in eCPM.

I'm raking in the dough faster than ever! 2010 started abysmal, but ended on a high the likes I've never seen before.

XMAS earnings up? DOWN
2010 earnings improved? UP
Have you blocked 3rd party Ads? NO
Do you allow Placement Targeting? YES - but low take-up
Do you allow image ads? YES
Or Text only? -
Have you ever requesting CPM blocking? NO
If so is Adsense still blocking CPM? -

2010 up on 2009 but it should be as i've put a lot of hard work in.
December - terrible both in terms of traffic and ctr - wondered if it was partly to do with bad weather in UK in December.
December is always a quietish month so hoping for better in Jan when people get back to work and start using their work computers for browsing the net!

Perhaps there is a correlation? Don't think so.

While 2010 was a banner year, 2011 is off to a great start too (December 2010 earnings were up 38% YoY). I don't expect to repeat the improvement I saw for the entire year. I need three more years like 2010 and I'll be heading for early retirement (from my day job).

This was my best December ever. 295% higher than Dec 2009
However, January has been scary so far. Profits have dropped almost 50%. I hope this wasnt just a fluke to get sales up in Dec

Ive doubled my traffic this last year and still climbing.
I cant wait for this recession to really end. I really have no confidence in my future profits. Hope to grow traffic a lot more this year.

Average returns. I believe the recession combined with junk websites are taking their toll.

It is amazing to see so much junk sites ranked very high in search engines. Try searching for

John "Jack" Wheeler dead birds

and see how a couple of the top sites are absolute rubbish - apparently a robot scrapping material and translating and re translating articles to make for incomprehensible nonsense (at least to humans) but full of adverts that people may click out of desperation.

I'm thinking of a couple sites in particular which have plagiarised my material and is made a names for themselves in the SERPS
