I just mentioned the same on another thread here. It is not the only coincidence, the change on G algo is affecting traffic on several sites who had stable numbers for years. I hope this ends well.

Nothing as yet but it may have an effect once it gets passed the first round however there are a lot of non-World Cup Internet users out there...just as normal!

I was reading an article that mentions that WC followers will spend proportionately less time looking at non-WC things on the web.
Makes sense. I think it really depends on the countries your visitors are from and whether they are from a 'WC watching' demographic.

When audience is Brazil for sure adsense drop, all country stop in match days (schools, stores etc etc close).
Today... drop about 20% (Brazilian Game).
Not so hight at weekend games.
If brazil win WC (7 matchs) i lost a adsense day.

My major income is from the German speaking area.
I always hope, that Germany is wiped out early,
but again, this did not happen.
