| New site best ad types

Hi
I'm designing a new informational/ community site and am keen to hear any recommendations on which types of ads tend to work best and their placement. I very much appreciate this depends on the site (& other factors) but I've got an open canvas and would welcome some suggestions on how to/ how to not proceed. Thank you

I think just one big, blended ad block, top center, is best for maximum CTR.
That's what I use on every page.
Most say to use the 336x280, but I prefer the 250x250, because it limits the number of ads to 3.
Limiting the # of blocks to one, minimizes the perception of your site being MFA (Made-For-AdSense), and prevents lesser paying ads from being displayed (theoretically).
