At the end of the day, according to the Aussie article below, it seems that Gokul Rajaram could have just been a product manager whose team was responsible for integrating the Adsense technology developed by Rex Wong and his company Applied Semantics, which Google bought in 2003. AdSense man Rex Wong [theage.com.au] Rex Wong now runs dave.tv.

just a project manager... that grew the department into a monster. I think that takes some real talent, and his $50M take is a good indicator that he's more than just your ordinary project manager... he's SUPER PM! :)
