Putting AdSense on a closed community site?

Apologies if this has been covered before but I could not seem to find any threads relating to my question.

Basically, quite simply. I have a private niche site with lots of users. However I would like to put AdSense on the site and get some form of monetary output.

Google have denied my initial application because the pages are behind a login screen.

Is there any way I can work around this either by using a different site URL or contacting the AdSense team directly and letting them see the 'logged in' site?

Many thanks.

This is changing.
There's an open thread discussing it right now:

Good news!

After reading the posts here.
I contacted Google directly and explained my predicament.
Once I created a login for their AdSense team to check my site over my account was authorised.

Thanks once again to everyone who took the time to reply.
