July Revenue Trends
Share your experience and tips

If I go through my past 3 years stats I see july as the worst month. Everyone knows that US traffic is important and summer is here. Most advertisers reduce spending at this time due to start of summer.

So how do I maximizing revenue during this time? Share your tips and experience

For my site, July of last year was better than June, so whether July is the "worst month" probably depends a lot on your topic.

As for how you can maximize revenue during July, there's no simple answer. One way might be to add a site about a topic that does better in summer than your existing topic does (say, barbecuing or surfing if your existing topic is skiing or snowmobiling). Or you could simply accept the fact that summer is your slow time, and that long-term averages are more important than seasonal fluctuations.

Many people are off on vacations during July, plus the sunshine makes many run off outside to enjoy cookouts, games, time by the pool, etc.

I would say that's it's a good bet that many people spend their summer web time looking up new activities or adventures for the summer.

You're not going to be able to get people to cut down on their summer fun to sit in front of their monitor. So, think of how your content would relate to summer, try to gain some of those searches. Help your visitors have a great summer.

In the meantime, take a tip from your visitors, use this quiet time to get away from your site and get refreshed. You'll benefit by coming back relaxed and full of new ideas.

Best of luck!

Compared to last June: traffic up, revenue down
Compared to last month: traffic about the same, revenue up

Until last year, our traffic always tanked during the summer months. But from last year, it hasn't fallen off as much (although still down somewhat compared to the rest of the year).

[Ooops- sorry. Didn't read the OP closely enough the first time. Ask me about this year's July stats in a month. :)]

So when does this summer vacation end?

So when does this summer vacation end?

Depends on the topic, the country, and the audience, but in general, you can figure that August will be the busiest vacation month, with people going back to work or school in early September.

that's why adsense is so great: either you earn money or it's nice weather :)

seriously, on my sites, summer effect is cushioned by the leisure related content. people go out throughout the year.
naturally, traffic is diving yet, because many are not present in front of their devices.

apart from that, i've not noticed a major epc decline in summer because of reduced spending.

lower spending and lower traffic across the network = steady epc would make sense to me.

In 4 years of using AdSense July '07 was the second highest month for me (next to December '06).

Wow, a record month and it's only the first day! That either says something about this month, or a LOT about your other 4 years. :)

Everyone's situation is different but for me summer is slow. I have already started my pending home improvement projects.

As I mentioned somewhere else, I have done better in the last two weeks than I have in the last two years combined. I haven't seen one yet, but I've been told by several people that a Detroit TV station has been running commercials that are sending their viewers to my site (!) I don't think it's going to last past this week, but what a ride...

I had the same experience with my website traffic. Generally low in the summer until last year, when it remained even. I think the internet is still too new to rely on prior year trends to determine current year results.

I disagree, since I've been seeing the same traffic and revenue trends for at least a decade. (The Web is a lot older than AdSense, and so are some publishers' sites.)

It's been an all-time record earning weekend for my two recreation-related sites. The traffic is up considerably from last year, but EPC is down a bit from the previous month.

I always get highest traffic on weekends and especially during the summer. Strange, you would think that people would actually be out and about rather than sitting in front of their computer reading about what they could be doing. Traffic is spread pretty evenly over the weekend.

My traffic has increased at least twenty fold during the past eight years, but then I suppose the results depend greatly on the topic. My website is related to travel. It could be that more people are going on the web for travel info than they were eight years ago.

Traffic has increased greatly, but in my experience, seasonal traffic patterns haven't changed much. Day-of-the-week patterns haven't changed a great deal, either, although there's been a slight migration of traffic and revenue from Mondays to midweek.

Interesting - with the exception of last weekend, my Saturdays are always complete dogs, but Sundays always more than make up for it.

Well I reckon all my advertisers have already switched off their campaign.

My eCPM has just fallen to its lowest level ever, down 25% since last week and that was pretty dire to say the least, page impressions look pretty normal therefore I assume my US ads must not look very inviting to visitors since my European ads are completely as usual.

What a crappy summer, first continual rainstorms and flooding and now this!

Maybe you'll be able to just get a NEW car instead of having to fund repairs!

It's a good job I don't take this AdSense rollercoaster too seriously:-)

After yesterday's worst ever eCPM and CTR, after 8 hours I've already exceeded the entire day's earnings!

Thanks! Actually my banner day is usually July 3, since on July 4th the traffic slows way down around dusk, when everyone goes out to see fireworks.

And it was a banner day, too - never in my wildest dreams did I think the site would ever do what it's done in the past four weeks; last year I was amazed at how well it did, and would just never have believed it could ever reach five times that the next year. I just have to come up with something a little more year-round next time.

I'll be keeping my PT Cruiser for a while though, as it's not even two years old yet

My eCPM has been creeping downward over the last few days (it's now the 4th), mostly because CTR has been somewhat lower than usual. At the same time, affiliate bookings have been very strong. My interpretation: Casual lookers are distracted right now, but people who need to make purchases (e.g., people with summer vacations coming up) can't afford to let their planning slide.

4th of July: My eCPM has fallen to its lowest level this year. Down 40%
5th of July: (3:00AM PST) eCPM is worse than yesterday.

How long does this trend last? Can anyone share their previous year trends?
