Did you go past the first page? I suspect that they ask you for your email later in the signup process, though I can't remember. In any case they certainly did when I signed up.
I may be mis-remembering. But don't you have to supply a valid email adress as part of your username and password. The email adress must be a legitimate one - ie not hotmail or other free one.
