Chronology Of A New Site In Google

Several people have asked recently of how long does it take to be indexed and ranked in Google these days so I thought I'd take the opportunity to record the lauch of a new, niche trade website in the UK on an example.com fully responsive html5.

Monday 4th August 2014 - Launched with never before used, domain name.

99 Total pages, 87 Product pages, all with thumbnails and large original images plus unique and extensive product descriptions.

I expect the product pages to rise to 1,000+ over the next few months.

Wednesday 6th August 2014 - 7 Basic navigation pages indexed plus all index page images

Tuesday 12th August 2014 - 11 Pages indexed plus 52 thumbnail images

Thursday 14th August 2014 - Plus 1 Product page, 1 pdf page and 56 thumbnails

Friday 15th August 2014 - 66 Pages, 2 large images, some product pages already ranking in top 20

Saturday 16th August 2014 - 97 Pages, 26 large images, some product pages ranking at #1

Sunday 17th August 2014 - Several more pages at #1

Monday 18th August 2014 - 28 large images, 41 thumbnails!? Even more product pages ranking at #1 with many in the top 20

So this is in the UK however using Firefox SEO Global I have already had success in ranking US, Canada and Australia but heavens knows what anyone else is actually seeing is impossible to tell however using the TOR browser the results seem to be very similar.

If earlier experience this year is to go by then I expect over the next couple of months for all my large images to be indexed and ranked, several images are already at #1 in image SERPs.

I have not watermarked any of my images since both Google and Bing have been downgrading such images therefore I hope that they have some kind of timestamping mechanism in place these days for the originals. Recent testing by me for this would suggest that they do.

One other thing to add, three backlinks from my own sites, a .com, .eu and a .in

Interesting and well done on good results.

But I think it very much depends on the niche and its competitivnes. How big the numbers are if you do "allintitle" + "allinanchor" for your primary keywords?

They vary considerably since some are not so-well-promoted products with only a few hundred into the low thousands whereas the most popular products are running into 1/2 million plus.

My primary interest was knowing how fast a site could be indexed and ranked these days since getting traction seems to have been much more difficult this past couple of years. Strangely no further large images have been shown as indexed since Monday but in my experience testing for this is always 2-5 days behind.

I don't see anything about actual traffic, which is the point no? Since when was getting indexed difficult.

There have been quite a few posts the last few months with people struggling to get indexed, ranked and gaining any traction whatsoever, obviously you have not read them.

No i haven't but I've read plenty about new sites struggling to get traffic. I dont see the value here without the traffic numbers. Getting indexed on its own (Its news to me this is hard) and getting indexed with traffic flowing are two different things and tips for the former are redundant when one should be striving for the latter. I would argue you are not technically 'ranked' if you dont get hits even if you are number 1, because it is obviously something not worth ranking for and then by deduction a non-rank. Traffic numbers are the key thing here in this kind of case study.

"I have not watermarked any of my images since both Google and Bing have been downgrading such images..."

Could you please elaborate?

Are there any studies out there proving this? Is this something a googler has said?

All of our images have watermarks that are as clear as day on them, and they seem to rank really well. (I wish our PAGES ranked nearly as well as our images rank.)

Are these affiliate products or your own that you actually purchase/make and ship out?

Good heavens I put some helpful info out there for people who are wondering how long indexing and ranking is currently taking for a new site and I get grief!

Yes, we are already getting good levels of traffic, these are for competitive global trade products in my niche industry that we manufacture in several locations in several countries competing against many thousands of other factories worldwide.

Both Google and Bing removed many watermarked images in my niche, and others I have been informed, earlier this year, they both did it very quietly. Subsequently I tested re-introducing some non-watermarked images and those images regained their former rankings so I then replaced all the watermarked images on specific sites, not all sites, and nearly all those images have returned to the top and our traffic has increased substantially.

Interesting...
Especially the speed of your main navigation pages being indexed in 2 days!

Thanks for the information on this one, few points there in regards to entire site indexing and Google's downgrading of images with watermarks, i found very helpful, thanks.

You are getting grief because without details your info is not really helpful.

Indexing and ranking new domains has never been hard, if they are in a very small niche. Now, if you are getting 10,000 uniques a day, I would be interested in the info :)

To you maybe but I found it helpful so thanks RedBar. I launched a site a few months back with around 20 pages of good info that now ranks reasonably well but it must have taken 6 weeks to get indexed (it was spidered very quickly). I still don't really know why tbh but it's good to know that's not the norm.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this. I will have to double check all our image ranking again I guess.
