When I open my GWT account, the thumbnail image for one site is showing a home page that is approx 12-15 months out of date. The page in question has been crawled, indexed etc and displays correctly for searches and via links etc.... it's just the GWT thumbnail that is wrong.
I've been treating this as a minor annoyance and something not worth worrying about, but after such a long time without a thumbnail update, I've begun to wonder if this is a possible indicator of an underlying problem with Google's indexing of this site.
I'm not seeing any obvious reports/indicators of problems in any of the GWT data.
Anyone else experienced this issue and/or know the likely cause?
Put yourself in Google's place. If you are running a for-profit company you want to minimize your cost and maximize your profits. Crawling and updating thumbnails is a cost. If that cost is not helping you generate good profits then you are not likely to spend a lot of energy & money to make it better. IMHO this is why some pieces of GWT are not perfect and prone to glitches.
