Fixing crawl errors and return of rankings?

I noticed it takes around 90 days to drop pages from the crawl errors once they have been fixed ( and this is what google says on its website )

Does it me that that in order for my rankings to get back I need to wait I have no more crawl errors listed ?

There is the index status in the webmaster tools that says a certain number let's say 100 index pages and then there the crawl errors that says let's say 600.

Then let's imagine that in the crawl error google has discovered 50 pages that it marked as crawl errors a few month ago.

Login in today I noticed that out of my 600 pages in the crawl errors I only had 550 listed and that the ones discovered a few months ago were not listed anymore.

However, the indexed status hasn't changed still at 100 ( which very close the the number of pages my website has ). Let's say my website has only 70 pages and in the index status it lists 100.

My question is the following :

In order to gain my ranking back and google to start trusting me again does my index status need to be down to 70 ( the exact number of pages my website has ) or do the 600 crawls errors need to be all fixed an dropped from the list and showing the number 0 ?

All I know is I've been fixing errors for the last couple of months and I've seen no change in rankings.

I wouldn't bother looking that deep into it, just fix them and cross your fingers.

I've never seen any direct correlation between crawl errors and ranking.

That is good news … but there is defiantly one between duplicate content and rankings and getting ride of that one takes forever ( with google you are not allowed any error in terms of coding…)
