I am considering adding Google site search to my e-com site. However, I wanted to have the results displayed as nicely as possible, ideally with an image.

Is it possible to have rich snippets displayed in your Google site search? If so, does it matter if you domain doesn't have a high enough authority to show RS in the SERPS?

whatson - That's a good approach. Custom Search routinely shows many more photos than regular search. In the searches I just ran on a Custom Search engine I use for testing, they certainly did. Additionally, the site:domain searches that I ran for several image conscious ecommerce domains displayed product thumbnails on every listing. I think you'd be happy with the results.

We've had a several threads here about setting up sites to get Google to display thumbnails in their regular serps, and I'm sure that similar considerations would apply to getting best thumbnails for your ecommerce internal site: searches.

The images need to be properly marked up... and, I've observed, Google likes images that are graphic and tightly composed. More details and some additional references in this thread...

Yes, I have already done all the rich snippets for products for the serps with Schema.org. So I was just wondering if that would automatically work on the site search.
