My situation is a little bit complex and I am hoping to get some valuable advice in regards to which direction I should follow.
The situation is: The partners of a well ranked firm decided to split ways. Part of their agreement was that one partner gets the interior pages of the site to redirect to a new domain, but the home page has to have a message which will include links to two new websites and remain non redirected for a period of 12 months.
Clearly, there are several challenges here:
1. Will redirecting the interior pages, and not the home page cause crawl and redirect issues with search engines? 2.How do I handle Google places? Should I create a new account or change the URL of the listing? 3.If someone has had a similar situation, what are some of the things I should look out for?
The goal is to retain the rankings without having to start all over. The reality is that most of the backlinks are pointing to the home page so unless I can get the webmasters to change the links, which is unlikely.
Any advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like each one will be creating a "New" website on a "New" domain. You are starting over except there is content to be shared that will help some. Expect the traffic to drop like a rock and the only way to get it working again is to work the new webite.
