The company I work for have various business partners that will link to our site during the dates when we are running a sale with them. But after the sale, they remove all links to us. Because the link is not permanent, I am guessing we are not receiving much SEO value and potentially even some harm as a result of the link being on/off. Has anyone else experienced this? Obviously the best scenario is that the links are permanent which we are working on.

Do they pages with links to you get taken down or do they leave the page, but just take a link to you down?

Just the links to us get taken down after the "sale". Typically the links to us are from other website's homepages.

Have you checked the other sites code to see if the link if a no follow?
if it is a no follow probably nothing if it doesn't have the tag then I would suspect it might throw a flag for a manual and or algo issue.
