Geo Region meta tags

Do any search engines apply any weight or even use geo meta tags?

example:

<meta name="geo.region" content="GB-BIR" />
<meta name="geo.placename" content="Birmingham" />
<meta name="geo.position" content="52.486243;-1.890401" />
<meta name="ICBM" content="52.486243, -1.890401" />

Is using these basically pointless and use take up four lines of code?

Are the useful to include for ANY reason?

The latest information from Google is that they ignore these as they do not think they are reliable enough.

Here is a last year's thread on this subject: [webmasterworld.com...]

Note the response of Phranque and Robert Charlton in that thread.
