Fetch as Google broken today?

 9:13 pm on Aug 17, 2013 (gmt 0)

Anyone else is seeing this? After about 12 noon today I am unable to fetch any new pages (plenty of available fetches remain) . It says "Unreachable Page" and yet a test of robots.txt finds no issue and, more to the point, the Google Web Preview bot had fetched the page just fine. It's kinda ironic - it says "Unreachable Page" and yet there's a preview snippet of it right there. So, apparently only Googlebot cannot get there, other Google bots do just fine.

Is anyone else seeing this or is this something with my site/host/its ISP etc?

I have just tried in one of WMT accounts and it works fine.

You say you cannot fetch your new pages - what happens with your old pages, can you fetch these?

Have you got any other WMT account or any other domain in the current account where you can try Fetch as Googlebot and see if it is working?

Thanks, aakk9999. An hour and a half later, the fetch went through. Don't know what caused it, if it happens again, I'll follow up here.

Was it a brand-new preview as confirmed by logs? Previews aren't cached very long, but they're not requested fresh every single time.

You know, of course, that Preview isn't done by the googlebot and doesn't include a request for robots.txt. (This applies afaik to all search engines that have a preview feature.)
