Hi gbenz, and welcome to WebmasterWorld.
Should I only have one of these two...or is there some other reason that google says I have multiple description tags?
I need to say right up front that your post was originally titled "Duplicate description tags". We have a thread on that topic that ultimately I'm going to refer you to, and I didn't want to duplicate or even approximate that title. But I think that your question as you asked it is initially an entirely different question. Thus (in my role as a moderator) I changed your title to...
Is GWT seeing og:description and HTML meta description as dupes?
As I understand it, you're asking whether Google Webmaster Tools might be reporting the Open Graph description (for Facebook) and the HTML description element (aka "description tag"), on the same page, as duplicates.
If the syntax you used for those is correct, I don't think so. I'm assuming that Google and Facebook have figured out how these need to play together, and Google is not seeing the two different types of description elements as duplicate descriptions.
The sample urls you provided, though, suggest to me that you've got the same page url with different session IDs appended. Google sees each of these urls with different session parameters as a different url. I'm guessing they're urls for comments in Wordpress (or another CMS)....
The second post in that thread, a response posted by goodroi, perhaps applies to this modified version of your question more than it might to that discussion, which it turns out had to do with forum posts.
Please check out the descriptions on pages returned by the urls above to confirm. You might also post the syntax of your two descriptions (avoiding specifics, per our Charter), just so we can be sure that those are OK.
The best reference I can find for og:description syntax, btw, is on this site operated by Facebook...
