I am confused what’s happening. |
| Google is happening. My understanding is: 1. Rankings fluctuate for a new (to google)site 2. Results differ by data centre for a new site

| This site was previously ranking for a different set of keywords. Does the above said still apply? If someone could share some insights on this Mine is a company that designs/develops website. We have our logo on every website with a hyperlink to my site. Does that hurt my SEO? On some sites, we have a common keyword that is hyperlinked to my site. Does that hurt my SEO? |

For my sins, I once used to optimise credits on the sites I developed to include anchor text. About 3 years ago I did an experiment and changed every credit to link on my brand name. Might be a coincidence but my rankings improved after that change, and I was doing no other work on links at the time.

Google is not very stable at the moment. A lot of shuffling going on. I believe that may be responsible for your crazy rank fluctuations.

| In my opinion it shouldn't. If I see a website design I like it is always good to know who created it if I ever need somebody. Of course with Google who knows... | I did not have rankings until 2nd week of January. A week before this, i had re-optimized all my main pages and fresh content was uploaded. |
| Google always pushed quality content before April 2012. Since then it seems popular brands and big business plus so so quality get you ranked well. Myself and a couple of my main competitors before had good current content. We don't rank nearly as well any more. The first page of the results now contain 3+ year old content from the likes of about and huffington post. | I am confused what’s happening. |
| We all are. :-(

| Maybe the issue is more about how an algorithm determines quality content. If it's primarily through user response, plus a few other factors, then "brand" could mean a lot.

| That being said. For sites to which I had access, I removed the hyperlinks. For sites which I do not have access, should I use the disavow tool? Could adding a rel="nofollow" suffice?
