As far as I'm aware Google never say in advance when they will be updating any of their algorithms. Panda is pretty much updated monthly. Looks like penguin might update every 6 months although I seriously hope that they update it more regularly.

Google never announces when a Panda/Penguin update will happen. I also hope Penguin reruns will happen more often, but since Penguin is about backlinks, it takes time to recrawl the pages where your backlinks are located.

Sudden drop in traffic today, looks like I'm hit again and a gain from last time, back to square...

Yeah Sgt. I can see some pretty significant movement today over several sites. It's exactly what I see around update times.

The last one is on 20 Dec so i don't think it's been over a month?

They've run them less than a month apart in the past, I see movement on one site in particular and on that of my competitors site's which is why I ask if there's been anything official.

FWIW I'm seeing some horrible image movements with lots of Chinese rip-offs ranking well. Believe this or not one site has ripped a load of watermarked images and simply written their own watermark over the top with absolutely no attempt to disguise the original owner! Google's lost any semblance of control with images, period.

| Panda yes, frequent updates. Penguin not so much, only two updates since it was introduced.

I think based on the ranking patterns I have observed, there was a possible Penguin update late last week or over the weekend. We'll see what Google say anyway, they should make an announcement in the up coming days

The closest thing to a widely observed pattern in the January updates thread [webmasterworld.com...] is this shift mentioned by menntarra_34 and confirmed by roughly 5 or 6 other members.... strange thing happened: in WMT my "not selected" pages dropped significantly: [i.imgur.com ] |
| The graph shows an extremely steep drop in "not selected" on Dec 30, 2012. Not yet sure what that might suggest.

I also show a 50% decrease in Not Selected pages in WMT on Dec 30th. From about 11k to 5,500.

| I didn't see anything to suggest that. Did anyone else?

Hmm, my best performing site shows a modest drop in Not Selected. My Penguin-Panda'd site and my other high performer show no significant change.
