I had been experiencing gradual recovery since Penguin, with my key term page back at the bottom of page 1, and home page (in top three positions before penguin) up to page 5 for key term.

Today the key term page has dropped back to page 2, but the home page has dropped below page 50 (Startpage finds it on p 47) for key term.

I has all the hallmarks of Penguin 1: exact term and page (e.g. <key term location> is OK).

It might be just a temporary glitch (I hope so!): I can't see what on earth would cause that kind of penalty now.

Martin Ice Web, a number of people in the November updates thread reported something around the 27th. It seemed to only affect certain sites (mine were totally unaffected), and we never identified a pattern to which ones. You might want to take a look the last few pages of that thread.

@Martin Ice Web,
I saw a lift starting on the 27th and continuing to grow into this week. US-based informational site with a Panda history.

Since yesterday we've taken another tar & feathering with a large cut in keywords & traffic. I've been watching GART all day and it's hasn't exceeded 4 visitors at a time all day. It seems we've been narrowed even further in our key phrases...coincidentally, I am noticing a huge influx of spam in my inbox over the past two days. It's almost as if this is more like a network issue than just a Google issue.

I initially suspected a DNS issue. Interestingly WMT shows no decline in impressions and I can't find any major SERP charges either. just odd.

Same thing. No change in rankings but big decline in traffic.

Rankings are okay, traffic seems steady (even up for many sites). But traffic is converting at an all time low.

Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse than they already are... By far the worst Christmas season I have experienced, in terms of sales, for years.

the hit was 29th Nov. Now marked on my stats chart as possible unannounced Pands update.

There was a confirmed Panda Update on November 21 - see [webmasterworld.com...]

It's very unlikely that another happened 8 days later. It does sound from the observations here like some kind of algo shift was going on Nov 29, but I'd be very surprised if it was Panda.

The Google squeeze is on here. Traffic drying up more and more each day. Nearing some all time lows. Depressing.

Meanwhile one of the B&M sites I manage is doing fine, with Google traffic actually up. Beats me what Google is up to, but I have a bad feeling they're after any niche that can make a buck. All they'd need would be some solid data to pull it off. Fortunately for them, between AdWords and AdSense they probably know by now just where all the money is. Must be nice.

Do you really think that it's Google causing all the problems? I know that, at least in our niche, November and December are the lowest points in the year. I'm sure some posters here are suffering from seasonal lows also.

@giggle

I used to think differently about the search engines than I do now. What I see from the big three today is an overt land grab for positions once held by the organics. Yahoo! is even worse than Google in their layout, with advertising front and center, but Google still is the dominant engine and so their moves carry much more weight. I'm just calling it as I see it, a race to get as much advertising revenue while they still can. Organics be damned.

I've seen a flux in my keywords ranking and traffic to my site. it all started on December 2nd. many of the sites lost their rank and traffic. I don't know, what is going on with Google.
may be the panda effect!

Hit another all time low in December. I actually created a simple non profit site called "Promoter Of Alternative Search Engines" out of frustration and anger. :D I predict I wont be visiting WebmasterWorld by the end of next year due to "career change".

thanx all for your feedback.

diberry, i allready looked at the thread, but canīt find many WM reporting a decline in traffic. Just some. No, i just wanted to know if someone sees similar pattern on 27/11, cause not many poeple give feedback anymore, cause they are sick of g$$gles everyday changes.

@tedster, from our valued opinion, does g$$gle real say the exact time of panda release? Does it need more then 6 day to go through the datacenters? The last updates need only 1-3 days?

@Martin Ice Web, I could definitely see the shift on Nov. 22-23 from the 11/21 Panda update on my Pandalized site, so I believe that's the time frame for it. But it definitely sounds like something *else* happened around the 27-29th, we just don't know what.

Have made MAJOR changes to our entire web presence - really all you can think of has been done, removing old style link reciprocation pages entirely, redoing entire site navigation, disavow google tool, asked about 500 links to be disavowed, etc etc. Our site is a dominant player in our sector, one of the first in our sector back 13 years ago. Long site history, mentions by major space agencies in the news, etc.

SO ... using a well known rank checking program to monitor our positions on serps... we see major changes as of the last 5 days.

Noticing
1) Major move up on many of our terms in a big way
2) Stats moving higher/better etc does not reflect these changes really... a) these higher positions or b) more hits on keyword term incoming to our site

So I am a bit wondering what's up, I think we deserve the boost sometime soon, but strange to have most all our $ terms moving up overnight about 20-45% but not seeing this yet on total visits per day on site. I have noticed some changes in terms that are hitting us via Google referrers, a bit longer tail, better quality. I see people staying on our pages more, longer etc.

So what are your thoughts out there everyone? Is this just a situation where Google is taking it's time to find our new place in its updates and algo or what?

Thoughts everyone? Have a very very nice weekend everyone and I hope everyone the best going forward with Google.

We noticed a change in SERPs around 3:30PM ET - feels like a test rather than part of an algo update. Waiting for Monday and Tuesday to know for sure but two sites are noticably improved in competitive positions going into the weekend; one has had recent updates (an EMD) and the other (no KW in domain) has not. Overall, traffic has risen slightly due to these as long tailed searches seem unaffected.

Seeing some really big shifts right now, with the biggest change appearing to be a big influx of hacked CMSes acting as cloaked parasites. Hurray for quality.

HMMmm I thought I posted here the other day but must not have clicked the Submit button.
Anyway, it seems like I have regained some of my lost hits but I don't know if it is Panda, Penguin or self inflicted since most of us, I think, try to figure out what we can do to "fix things" and so have I. I can't point to anything specific since there are a lot of small changes that has happened over the last 6 months or so and I don't see it correlate to any update dates.
Over the last 2 weeks I have gained about 25% compared to the weeks before. Overall I am still at only 25% of what it used to be a year ago.

@backdraft

I do notice the same: " more like a network issue than just a Google issue."

On ON traffic days high incoming spam on OFF traffic days almost no incoming spam.

Any suggestions how to investigate possible G/host network (DNS) issues, beside classic troubleshooting?

Again -37% less traffic today. I have never seen this useless serps ever. Though in summer was bad. But this is top of all bad serps, beginning 27/11. Sites with no content, ebay affiliates, amazon affiliates all over. small ecoms are totaly gone.

Did someone notice that google change the "give feedback" behaviour? It is no so complicated compared to prior feedback routine.

@Martin Ice Web
This is normal behavior for Google just before Christmas. The brands get a big Google "love in" while the hard working small business gets a Google "Santa slap".
This will be another record year for big brands and another record poor year for small businesses.

Hi simonmc, i know that, but that it would be this hard, i couldnīt think of. There must have been flowing big money from 2 companys into g$$gles pocket. I have never seen such a heavy change towards brands/big players in christmas season the years before.

Another 30% drop.
Serps (for my niche) full of crappy sites.

BTW, a good increase in Yahoo & Bing traffic.
Coincidence?

Seeing a similar drop in traffic now - my new GART number is TWO....it used to be TWENTY. The whole deck of cards has collapsed. Domain crowding from the usual bunch is in full force. I'm now below the fold or worse. I really miss the good old Wild West days of the web (prior to 5/2010). Since then it's been genocide for small business. Oh look, my new number is ONE, one visitor, oh wait, now it's ZERO!

backdraft what niche are you in?

My site saw big anomaly drop at 2:00 am and 5:00 a.m. pst (50% off compared to last week) according to GA - and 20% lower through the am period for all the other hours. the traffic returned to normal around 7:00 am. Did anyone else see similar pattern?

pingdom did not report any down time on my hosting so it seems to be google's referral work.

WOW it has never really been gone, but today I saw from page 4-14 93 results from the same domain, how is that a good user experience, I would pandalize google for such content.

Oh forgot to mention, that the site was also on the first pages, but also after page 14, with over 60% domination on every page, it was a 2 keyword search.
