What creates low PageRank for quality sites?

Hi,

Its been quite some time, am trying to study this topic. Here I would like to now learn for experts on what could the reasons for low page-rank for quality reputed sites?

"Quality reputed" sites in the eyes of the beholder. Most people see their babies a whole lot differently from what they are actually are.

I think this is a topic not worth the time trying to study. PR measures only your link popularity, whereas rankings are actually determined by hundreds of other factors.

Probably, the only reason to focus on PageRank is if you're selling links.

Agreed. PR is essentially about link popularity, and the original formula has been tweaked over the years. It now probably include factors like the quality and page position of the link, not just a raw link count.

When you're comparing PageRank values, always keep in mind that the scale is not linear. The difference between a PR 3 and 4 is a LOT less than the jump from PR 4 to 5... and that kind of difference goes all the way up the scale.

Also quality sites can have their page rank lessened because of having external links suspected of being paid for.
