Backlinks for 301 redirected domain

 6:02 am on Jun 14, 2012 (gmt 0)

Alexa, Google and other tools are showing back-links of 301 redirected domain.
I redirect Abc.com using htaccess 301 redirect to Xyz.com
then I create some back-links for Abc.com
and when I check using Alexa.com and google and seo-spy-glass for Abc.com, its showing all back-links which I created.

Wherever I know if I use 301 redirect, it means the site is moved permanently, then why its showing back-links for permanently redirected domain.A
Any help will be appreciated.

Hello avipr, and welcome to the forums.

The backlinks are showing in WMT because most of the backlink power will transfer to the new domain through a 301 redirect.

I think when you check backlinks, the tools you mentioned only show you the technical backlinks, without considering whether the target site is permanently redirected. In other words, if you check the backlinks to xyz.com, you won't find any, although Google will pass on (maybe not all) the backlink ranking power to xyz.com

@tedster thanks for reply
I didn't use webmaster tools, I check it link:abc.com
and seospyglass and both are showing backlinks.

@simonlondon thanks for reply
I think Google did not pass 301 redirected link juice, as the backlinks are showing for old domain.

My motive is- I don't want to show backlinks of 301 redirected domains.
Even I also create a new domain and redirect it using 301 to other domain, and create some backlinks to new created domain, and it also showing backlinks to newly created domain.

Any help

Google will show 301 backlinks if they see the redirect - nothing you can do about it.

Hello Avipr, as simonlondon said the tools you are using to check the backlinks show you only the technical backlinks to the website, while in reality the value of these links is being successfully passed to the redirected domain... so in my opinion you should really worry about what these tools are showing instead your motive should be building more links to your website... :)
