I haven't been hit by penguin or panda, but I have my site on one paid links site.. should I be removing it?

What are you thoughts on [domain name removed]

Here's what your question sounds like to me. "I know that Google says no paid links that pass page rank. I have one link like that - can I get away with it?"

The answer is, "you might" if other signals about your site are very strong. And if that's the case, you don't really need the elevated risk level, IMO.

Funny how interpretations of written statements vary.

but I have my site on one paid links site

I read that as the OP has their site listed with a "link rental" site.
I do not read it as "I have one paid link", but I'm the first to admit I'll often mangle intent.

One paid link wouldn't make me nervous unless it was a really blatant off-topic high PR link with exact match anchor text to prominent on-page text on the linked page.

If the OP has their site listed on a link rental site I have no idea what might happen, that's one of those things I have no interest in experimenting with.

Edit: Fixed quote which I should have absorbed a long time ago.

The old business I worked for removed all "paid" links in January. These were links from sites often mentioned by google and people here as acceptable because of their authority. They did it because traffic was so low they couldn't justify the expense.

In late April their traffic went up 70%, it went up 30% on 5/17.

It makes me wonder if even the old accepted directories are now no longer helping or in some cases hurting. Nothing else changed on their site aside of 4-5 links.
