Hi,
I posted below in webmaster general as its really general seo, however google is our biggest and most important provider, but no result so I will post it here.

I need a new host
as I think my host needs a braindoctor..and if I tell him Im afraid he will block me and wont go to the doctor.

The situation is this,
a .com website active since 2001 starting to have good ranking in google in 2002. In 2003 and onwards always on first page. It has always been hosted in USA.

We are situaded in Spain, but had before mostly clients from u.k, spain and sweden, mostly as the web are in english, swedish and spanish, and there are many visitor generally from those countries, however also had clients from rest of word, including usa.

Nowaydas we have less brittish, swedish and spanish clients, but a lot more russian and from other countries in europe, and of course some from countries not in europe.

So, hosting in spain is expensive and dont give as much as us hosting. Been checkin hosting in u.k and are less expensive than spain but more expensive than usa.

What I understand is that for google and other searchengines being hosted in u.k would give the site better spead and better ranking maybe.
But I am not interested in u.k only, suppose we would have better ranking in google.co.uk and yahoo.co.uk etc.
I mean persons not from uk that use english for searching I imagine they use google.com and yahoo.com etc and dont use google.uk.

Im afraid if I "move" to england I could loose position in google.com etc....

Any recomendations?

.com is not US only it is a universal domain ending. Moving the domain from one country to another country hosting is not something I have ever done but an educated guess is you would probably lose some of your terms on the US Google search. How many is a guess. What is really important is the spread of the links pointing at the domain. I would first look at this before moving.

Honestly dont know about the spread as it been since 10 years, but we do have links in swedish, spanish and most in english but if the links are in english ore american site no idea, suppose a mix of both.
Thanks

helenp you need to find this out and keep it up to date. This is very important to your question. If most of the links are english and you move the site to UK yea your probably going to get hammered in the .com Google, if the links are well spread the effects are not that bad.

Target the other users in the same content but in the native language and in a domain specific to that country and hosted in that country. This would be the best way I would go about targeting the other countries.
You could even buy the the same domain name with the .com.ru ending.

Yes I know, however there is a problem wich I dont like, We have to answer emails and to take care of the clients when they arrive here and we dont speak russian....

Also we keep adding and deleting properties so we would have to keep paying somebody to translate.

Dont know I have the swedish and spanish in the .com in a folder and we are doing very well, especially in sweden as there are not much competence, there are most competence in english and spanish languages.
