A commonly accepted wisdom is that the closer key content is and links are to the top of the page, the better, right?

If I have a left column that comes before my main content in the html, is my left columns stealing my 'top juice' from my keyword rich center column/main content?

Or does google's boilerplate algorythm discard the left sidebar as being just that?

Is it worthwhile in an html document in which the code for the main column appears first but the left column still appears to the left of the main body?

Ask, because I google'ed my site using the allintext command (eg allintext:mysite.com) and to my horror the results came from the left sidebar where I have navigation and some small text widgets. Am I overreacting to the allintext command? Is there a better way to see your page or better yet boilerplate structure of your page as google sees it?
