pagerank is still obviosuly a MAJOR importance to google, why would a multi billion $ company maintain it, if it wasn't

@ rannans, may be pagerank is a major important factor for G but for what?

Its nothing to do with pagerank as far as ranking and traffic of the website is concern.

My site was a PR6 and position was No. 11 for a major keyword. It is now a PR5 and the position for this keyword is 6 in the SERPS. Go figure!

@ elearner - just stating the fact that a company as big as google still uses it and updates it, who knows why and what they use it for

Confirmed in Canada. A couple sites stared about a year ago went from PR 0 to PR 2, whooooo!... of course, traffic seems down across the board yesterday...

My site went from a 2 to a 3 which is good. Rankings have stayed the same. Pagerank updates dont change too many rankings and its certainly not as weighty a factor as it used to be, there are roughly 200 signals to rank a site.

The last algo/ranking update was June 16th, so you can pretty much expect another algo update around July 16th.

Welcome to the forums, atharbasha.

The thing is, the PR update that changes the toolbar isn't related to any present time ranking changes. It only reflects changes that ALREADY happened in recent months.

Just had 5 of our properties move to PR7s bringing our total to 9. While this does nothing for our traffic, it is nice to have bragging rights amongst our peers. :)

My best site dropped from PR3 to PR2. On the other hand, another site I haven't updated in two months and which was hacked a month ago according to webmaster tools, went from PR3 to PR4.

At this rate I need to loosen the security on my good site, make sure it drops off page one, and stop updating it so much so I can get my PR back!

My home page went from 5 to 4, adding insult to injury after Panda. Or is that, adding injury to injury.

Most pages dropped a point, but others didn't change. Not only am I losing AdSense income, other advertisers are fading away.

Thanks Google. Not!

No kidding. Pr7? wow. Nobody in our industry has anything more than a pr5. If I had a pr6 site i would totally be pwning the interweb with my site.

Wicked! Built 50 mini sites a few months ago and they are now all PR4/5... (been burnt with building 1 site in the past... never have 1 egg in the basket thing)

I have many mini sites with organic traffic. No site has any PR. But I get income from site org traffic. Is it normal or random? What I could add to get lead & better incomes w/o G please?

My personal company goes to PR8 from PR4, and my personal blog goes to PR8 from PR0. And I have two other sites that got PR6.

Personal blog but has PR8 is nice, authority! :)

Well if anything was to convince me that toolbar PR means nothing, this update does. Got two small sites that had small but good earnings traffic. They were mullered by Panda but both have gone from PR0 to PR4.

Neither of these sites deserve PR4.

Overall I would say 60% of my sites have improved, 35% have remained the same and 5% gone down.

So my PR dropped from PR6 to PR5, yet my traffic completely recovered from Panda 2.2 on that day. Can I assume this means that my competitors got slammed much more than I did?

It's an intangible hyperhifi, but from my long-term observations it sounds like the scenario. You would be the best person to tell us if your competitors got slammed or not. That would give us some perspective.

From Germany: my main free subscription site went from PR3 to PR4 - but at the same time it got DEINDEXED for my main keyword !
It was #7 at Google page1 - now nothing more can be found for this special keyword an the first 40 sites of Google !
For my other keywords the site still is indexed...!
What`s going on? The site has a few well sorted backlinks for this main keyword - 1 week before the PR update i got additionally 15 forum profile links from edu-sites, most with my main keyword as dofollow backlink...

Could there be a connection with these few new backlinks? Sounds fishy for me what`s going in the background of Google....
