greetings. My site has been live for9 or so months now. I think i have done everything correctly when it comes to SEO (i could be wrong). All of my titles are in order, i use heading tags, try to get keywords in text without stuffing, have descriptions and so on. however i am still showing up on page 4 in search results for the words i want. I know the words i would prefer to be found by are competitive..but page 4?

You didn't mention whether other sites are linking to you, or what you are doing to make sure people in your particular niche know about your content. That's a big part of ranking - having a degree of popularity as is measured through backlinks.
Page 4 is 30-40 (assuming you are set to ten results per page) And you say the keywords are competitive, so there's probably plenty of sites targeting them as well. So what are you doing to make your site stand out / jump out in front of all the others?
Also good to know how competitive the search terms you are targeting are. If you make jewelry and sell it out of small shop in the town of Redwidgelt, you will never be able to rank for "jewelery" or "necklaces". But "jewelery redwidgelt" or "hand beaded rock necklaces" are within your grasp.
The fact that you are on page four means that Google is crawling your site and finding your content. That in itself means that you are doing something right. Once you are at that stage, link building is usually the most effective way to get your site to rank better.
