Google Images Update - November 2010

I noticed an images Update on Nov. 15th. And about time, too. The last images update was more than 2 months ago. Here are all images updates of 2010 I observed:

date what ...days since...
14.11.2010 Google Images Update about 73 days
02.09.2010 Google Images Update about 36 days
28.07.2010 Google Images Update about 81 days
08.05.2010 Google Images Update about 22 days
05.04.2010 Google Images Update about 60 days
(in january and february 2010 the indexation of new images was fluently)

In the days after the images-search updates its the best chance to index new images very fast. The newest image of my galleries are 4 days old. But hurry up: Usually after about 10 days after images update the indexation of new images gets again very slowly.

Best wishes
Martin

Thank you for that timetable, Martin.

It is kind of strange - with big gaps followed by small gaps. Did you put this together based on how your site's indexed images grew, or did you use a bigger sample of data?

@tedster: I observe about ten (own) gallery-sites, but I have also a blog (german) where some more people tell me about their oberservations. So I get this information by using roundabout 20 sites as data-base.

Good stuff - thanks. Anybody else have data to help corroborate this? It would be excellent if we could track Image updates more precisely than we have in the past.

I forgot something: as often said the site:-Command is ... lousy.

As I noticed galleries with less than about 500 images shows the correct count of images (check by clicking through the result pages (the german images search is old-style).

Galleries with more than about 500 images shows the doubled result-count. Don't ask me why.
So the best way to find out is to write down the actual number of images and check day by day what happens.

What I have noticed recently, is that Google caches and displays the images far quicker than before. (Sometimes as quick as 2 days)

But it is extremely slow in removing them.

Confirming "Google Images Update".
Slight change here too.
Site 1. From 8,000 to 10,000 and
Site 2. From 500 to 2,000.
BTW on my web sites this update started two weeks ago but very-very slow.

I've framebuster and I got image update after all .I think it's a good news too :-)

just as information: it seems that Google is now indexing new images fluently. Since Nov. 15 I see every day new images of my galleries in Google image search, with a delay of 3-4 days.
*happy*

Best wishes, Martin

It's still totally fubard for me, less than 1,000 images out of tens of thousands, normal SERPs fine!

@HuskyPup I am not sure what "fubard" menas, but I think its not good.
I think you have a problem with your gallery. Did you checked if images appear in "safeSearch off" - if so you have a filter-problem.

Otherwise it could be that the crawler is lame on your site. I recommend in these cases to include more pictures on your homepage - with a direct link to the image-page.

I have absolutely no idea what Google images are doing at the moment, it is completely broken in-so-far as I am concerned...the first time ever since Google started.

If, and this is a big IF, I have some kind of penalty, I have no idea what it is, however I have to write that I also see many others in my industry with missing images yet plenty of crap and many of my, and their, copied images.

I do not have a problem, Google does:-(

And fubard means...broken, politely:-)

Just an update info because I started this:
Google is faster than ever before. The indexation of new images takes actually about 24 hours. Awesome :-)

As I could see in my logfiles something unknown happened: the normal bot (googlebot/2.1) crawls a lot of images. The imagebot (googlebot-images/1.0) does also his work. Eg. yesterday the normal bot took 75 images, the imagesbot only 41.
Half a year ago the normal bot crawls only about 10 images per day and the imagesbot about 80 images.

Could anybody confirm this?

Nope, across my entire industry sector absolutely nothing new is being indexed. New pages are being indexed but without the images, absolutely bizarre.

I've just spent the last few hours going through all my CPanel settings because one of the sites I run, a local hotel and bar with regular live music, on checking site:operator for images and it has some new images posted within the last couple of days.

One of those images was only there for 1st and 2nd Jan yet it was ranking 5th when searched for and on checking my CPanel settings this site does not have any IPs selected in the IP Deny Manager.

I'm now checking all the IPs I have banned yet not found anything untowards so far, i.e. Googlebot by mistake, therefore I'm going to remove some of the banned IPs on a couple of sites as an experiment to see what actually happens...except for MySpace, Facebook and Coolchaser leeches!

Hmm so I'm not only one see this GI behavior ...
I can say that one of my web sites are still updating in last 45 days . I got indexed new images and drop down for some x x x images then again get indexed with new ones...
I dont know is this faster or G-bot become too picky and undecidable :-)
