Rel="nofollow" - does it taint a site forever?

 11:46 am on Sep 1, 2010 (gmt 0)

I have a site, which is linked to from many of my other sites, not behaving as I would expect (hmm....though maybe that's not such a surprise at the moment).
But one significant feature is that most if not all of its links were once rel=nofollowed.
Now I've removed that tag, and it hasn't really responded in the search rankings. Could thi sbe a residual effect of the tag?

i wouldn't think so.

had a client who had switched his blog to "privacy mode". ergo -> noindex, nofollow for every page.

he asked why he didn't rank, and I was laughing so hard I almost felt bad.

once I cleared that up for him, he was all green.

Placing links between your own sites can backfire, so I would be looking there...
