Hello

Need help! A friend said he could not see our site on his air force base because it was not categorized by Google and therefore they could not use their filtering software on it. It needs to be categorized as “military.”

Our website helps thousands of Veterans and people serving in the armed forces and we were unaware that the military was unable to view our site because it was not categorize on Google and their search results.

Can someone please help us with the steps for proper categorization so that military personnel can view our website?

Thanks!

It has nothing to do with Google. Air Force bases use a firewall with a white list of sites allowed through. This person needs to do a request to his/her base Communications Squadron requesting that the site be added to the white list.

I work from Air Force bases quite a bit and have found that it is hit or miss if a site will be allowed through. I'm constantly running into technical forum sites which are blocked because they are "unknown".

It's possible that the IT folks at your friends AFB use the Google Directory to check sites out. It's based on the ODP so it might help to get a listing there.
