Google Image update - more images included in safe search

 9:52 pm on Jun 27, 2010 (gmt 0)

Hello again

It looks like we have once again gotten more images included under "safe search moderate" and I still dont see any bad images worth counting, so a good job done. Rankings seem the same.

One thing is for sure they try the last 6-12 Month to include more images to the search, also they got better in not excluding good images.

Thats it, Google image is on a good path the last few yearsand Google remember never change a wining team.

Try a SafeSearch moderate image search for the upcoming holiday here in the United States. I see a bare bottom and a big woman wearing only tiny flags. ;->

Yes, that search is currently a FAIL. One of the Fourth of July images is displayed even with Safe Search set to "strict".

Are not enough people playing the Google image game? Google uses it to identify images. [images.google.com...]

edit: guess not. I played one round just now and ranked 3rd for the day.

well there has always been a few words which dont have that great a filter, but I think thats fully ok, be cause thats so such a small amount its not worth talking about, also I will say this im looking at this with european eyes not US be cause then you would see ex. girls in a sweater filtered.

Hi Zeus and all,

i have noticed a new thing in germany (don't know if or how it works in the rest of the world). Since some days (about 2 weeks) google includes images from "news sites" in the normal index - day by day.

Usually "news-images" and "normal-site-images" are indexed in different ways. And two weeks ago no "news-Image" found its way in the normal image search ( only when they are indexed like all other images ). But now you can push new images into the normal images-search by using "news-portals". The only thing that is a little bit tricky is to get the google-images link to another site that you can control.

In germany ( that means my sites ) I didn't see a "normal" images-update until now. Perhaps this night...
Best wishes, Martin

mssfldt - I have noticed, but I think it has been like that almost since the google images started to be updated daily. I will not call it a real update, rankings are the same but the moderated filter shows more images, which of cause is a good thing.

@zeus, ok, thanks, you might be right but I have done other observations. I have checked it on may 14th when I wrote an article about nachofoto. At that time no actual images are indexed for actual news ( in german google image-search ). But after that I didn't followed this question daily. One week ago I noticed this "news-images"-thing because of an actual "seo-Contest" where images appears in the regular images-serps that must be completely new (some hours old). But ( as I wrote ) they are only indexed because they are from news-sites. Interesting: the have only "cryptic names" - usual optimization isn't important for them. And: after some hours the loose their top-positions and go down...

Have you also notice the "problem with the imagesite-check. Since two weeks it shows the double count. e.g. there are 500 images indexed, but the imagesite-counter shows 1.000. If you klick through the serps you can see that there are only 500 images in the index.
I dont know what and why - but in my eyes there is a lot of trouble in the background. I think google is working on a major change in images-search ( pure theory ;-) )

Btw: If you have "european eyes" where are you from? Which images-serps do you follow?

Greetings, Martin

about the quick inclusion of your image, that also started some time ago, but not only for news site, I once added a few images, 3-6 days after it was on google image - 1-2 years ago it took 3 Month for new images to be added.

About the image count, ignore that, it has for some years now not been correct and yes some times its double.

perhaps we talk about different thinks or my english is too bad:
agree: 2 years ago there were some days, when new images joined the google image search ("images-update"). These day have passed since feb 2009. At that time Google startet to insert new images fluently (with a "time-difference" about some days). My fastes images appeared in image search in nov. 2009 - they were 7 days old. But in the beginning of 2010 this process begann to stutter. First the indexed images gets older. But since feb 2010 there came no new images into image search.
The "waiting for new indexed images" began as it has gone two years before.
On April, 5th I recognized an "traditional" images-update, the newest new picture was 60 days old.
Then again, nothing happend. On May, 8th I recognized the second images-update in 2010. My newest image was 22 days old.
But until then I could not see a new "google images update" - as I said: in germany.
The only thing I see is a change in the image-search with the "news-site-pictures".
Sorry if I told the same things twice. I will stop that. Perhaps it helps anybody.
Best wishes, Martin

I have noticed with some sites that they dont get updated as quick as other sites on google image, that depend on how popular a site is.

Your english is great np there.
