Google incorrectly applying US spelling "corrections" to UK searches

We have a site that has consistently ranked #2 in Google for a long time for its main keyphrase, which is both the company name and the domain name, as well as a description of its service. This is a UK site doing business exclusively in the UK and therefore uses the UK spelling of its keywords.

However in the last day or so Google has been automatically serving results for the US spelling, even when the UK spelling is typed into the search box. I've checked that all the language settings on the computer and Google itself are set to UK English. It then asks if I meant the English spelling I typed in in the first place. Yes I did - that's why I typed it in!

This seems to be a new thing. Is it normal? Has anyone else experienced it, and is there anything that can be done about it?

Yeah. I came across the same thing this morning.

Looks to me like google are rolling out some new way of handling misspellings, and haven't (yet?) taken into account non-US spellings.
