Do people ever stop to realize how much time/effort in most cases it takes for a good ranking? How about those companies who paid SEO specialists to improve their website ranking. So, we all want the everyday people to influence search results? That's great for everyone except for those who have been smart about optimizing their websites over the years. Imagine some social trends see your company, profits, vistors plummet into nothing. It better not become a click of the button to drop sites off Google. Nothing would surprise me, but screwing with a system that has seen Google claim up to 90% marketshare in some markets is baffling. I can't see why on earth they would ever let search results become a popularity contest. Imagine this though, people out there start hating adsense dominated websites. So, the masses start dropping these sites in the rankings. Sure, I'm sure Google has considered how this might play out. All the "clean", "white hat", "no ads", "no income made from this site" website at the top of search results. People don't often consider how fragile the internet really is from an economics perspective.
