|Google Images - "Moderate filter" Update|
| 5:29 pm on Jul 12, 2009 (gmt 0)|
Now we all know the last Months, images on Google is updated daily, before it was only about every 3 Month, but still they had a issue with there "Moderate filter" which just filtered way to many images, not like Bing.com which have a perfect filter.
Today I see big changes in search with "Moderate filter on" and I can say its to the way better, I have made my usual searches with some keywords which can not be mistaken as adults searches and some which could be mistaken both search gave me good results with more images presented, so as it seems now we are on a good way, but sometimes they make a few changes to the filter, so we have to wait a few days, but for now it looks good.

Thanks for the post, zeus. Certainly the Google Image team has been making lots of changes and advances behind the scenes, and it's good to see some of this begin to show itself in practical terms.
There's a new interview online with Peter Linsley [stonetemple.com], the product manager for Google Image Search. He covers a lot of territory in a very top-down view, but it's interesting to extrapolate from what is in print here.
There are even some hints about optimizing for image search (repeat the information in an alt attribute somewhere in the text content of the page) and the fact that Image Search "inherits" a lot of the regular spam team's work.

Tedster interesting reading, of cause we all knew about the stuff which was mentioned, but its always great to hear, that it is as you believe yourself, but not much where mentioned about troubles of the filter or other stuff, but ok also today it looks better on Google image, but we still have all those other URLs in a site:domain.com search, even when you have a htaccess in place for hotlinking for years.

Just to update here, I bet a few are also interested in whats going on in Google image section. I have noticed today another increase in images displayed with Moderate filer on, which of cause is a good thing for searches with the default settings, also I will say, still no "rude" images found after the last 2 days, so until now good job.

My site is child friendly - PICS-Label L - and have lost about 1000 images with moderate search. :(
Lost about 6500 images under strict :o

today I see the first pullback of images shown with moderate filter on, like as example early yesterday 3900 images shown later that day 6200, today 3900 again, so a little turn back, but that dossent mean we stay there.

Do you watch the Google IP address (data center) when you do these site: queries?

before I did it like that, but now I test .co.uk, .com, .in, .de but mostly I just use .com version I never noticed any big delays between countries. Still at 3900 images with the one test site, but at about 19:00 - 21:00 New York time there will come a twist again I think.

Just noticed another twist in the "update" of the Moderate filter, with the 1 test site there is now 8250 instead of 3900 and I still dont see any bad images in any of my searches, so Google is on a good way, but I dont think we are finished but I do think that this will be a "update" to the better for the users of Google image.

"Report offensive images" has been added to the filter option, could be a good idea, BUT there is a HUGE difference how a European see a image and on from the USA, in USA a girl with a sweater is pure Por. and for a european there has to be some kind of nudity, so how they will handle this could be interesting will they follow the old fashion way of the US or a more normal way like in Europe and could this be misused against competition?, but I will say this, its not a bad idea, be cause real por. or such stuff I dont want to see in moderate search.
Now to the update, I still see more and more images and no bad once, so still just good things to say.
