How important is using the keywords you want to target as anchor text to link from one page to another within the same website? From the home page to an inner page for example?

I know that the keywords in the link bar that appear on the left side of webpages that link to the inner pages is pretty important but I was trying to get feedback on using keywords as anchor text in internal links within say a paragraph to another page in the site.

As a general rule, anchor text and links in the content area are MORE important than links and anchor text in a menu or navigational area. That said, obvious attempts at manipulation can also get you into trouble - so be natural about it.

That is good information to know. Now I know that internal links in the content area are good to have.

Also, linking from content area to other relevant content area is always a good strategy.
