Google sitemap: how often should you resubmit it?

 1:02 pm on Sep 8, 2008 (gmt 0)

I personally resubmitted my site map every time i upladed a new page to my site but now im hearing from various places you should resubmit it even after a series of updates to already indexed pages?

How often do you do yours?

Although i do lots of updates on a daily basis i dont add pages that often, would this be the reason Google hasnt crawled my site since 22nd August as its starting to worry me now...?

No need to resubmit all the time if you do not have any new pages.

If you have old pages and you feel Google has not updated the information indexed for your site, you might want to check making correct entries in the last modified and and the frequency you want Googlebot to revisit your sitemap.

Now although this is what these XML tags were intended for, I really do not pay much attention to it. I prefer getting a new fresh forum or blog link instead because I feel tired editing the sitemap.xml file if it is not powered by some CMS for seldomly updated sites.

I have a 50,000 page site that I add 10 or so pages a day. It takes a long time and a lot of server resources to create a site map so I hesitate to do one everyday. How often should I create and resubmit a sitemap?

I send an update once a month, but we're only adding around five pages each time.
