Do Boolean operator, wildcard symbols, such as the * (asterisk) in the title tag affect search results?

I am seeing some website using them in the title, including the first character in the title, are ranking quite well.

<title>*my city thing *my city thing2*my city thing3 *my city thing4 *my city thing5</title>

In the title element they only function as word separators - they have no special characteristics.

By using an asterisk between keyword phrases in the title and not using additional spaces, improve keyword density?
