Filing a Google Reconsideration Request: What is the Process?

Having discovered that my site has been penalised for a link exchange & linking page which has existed since day one - 3 years ago - I've taken the extreme step of adding a .410 to both the offending pages:

www.example.com/links/index.html
www.example.com/links/linking.html

This was done following feedback from Google.

Today I have checked the site for a third time and submitted a Reconsideration Request through Webmaster Tools.

I wanted to ask if anyone else has experience of this process - timeframe, response, reinclusion in the search index?

There are a few related discussions which may well contain the information you need:

Reconsideration requests - anyone with experience? [webmasterworld.com]
Google Reconsideration Request - for rapid link building [webmasterworld.com]

You will likely find others via a site search [webmasterworld.com]

Most likely you will not get a response to your reconsideration request, although it will be read by someone at Google, so choose your wording carefully, and ensure your site will pass a strict manual review. I've never filed a request, so I don't have any first hand experience to pass on, I'm afraid.

This was done following feedback from Google.

Just curious, how did you get feedback from Google about your links page?

how did you get feedback from Google about your links page

I posted in detail on Google Groups about the problem I had been experiencing and received a reply from John Mueller at Google.

I have spent the best part of today composing and submitting my Reconsideration Request.

Now comes the waiting part ...

Oh I haven't used Google Groups, sounds like a good resource. Good luck with your RR!
