RedTCat - This is happening to my sites too. These sites are well established (4-5 years), clean, PR4-6 whitehat etc. I submitted them all to Google's Webmaster Tools 4 weeks ago and since that time I have received the same errors you describe. I have also had errors reported for many pages not found (including home page) supposidly due to robots.txt which is correctly configured and recognised by G. I also have errors with site map not being found. I have also had the home pages and now many internal pages removed from Google's index. As such traffic has sunk to a new all time low. Can you tell me if there are any pages (especially home pages) not being diplayed when you search for site:www.example.com I have a feeling that if your Homepage has been removed from the index then Google will not be able to locate your robots.txt or sitemap.

I had this same problem a couple weeks ago. I deleted the "http:///" entry and all returned to normal. Later that same day the "http:///" entry returned and it was back to the verification errors. I deleted it again and everything has been fine since. I assumed the "http:///" got entered while I was adding sites to my account and hit the back button after submitting the form.

Having the same problem on one site that just won't verify with metatag or html file. Well established PR4 with 100 pages in Google but new to sitemaps.

OMG! I did not even notice the "HTTP:///" but as soon as I deleted it, everything went back to normal. What's up with that!

Give it a day or two? I frequently find that verification problems in GWT disappear after a day or two.

Yes this bug has been present since July 26th. I can remove the extraneous "http://" site setting and after repeated attempts I'm able to re-verify the site. The strangeness is also evident on the Preferred Domain section. Despite being verified for all other sections, when I visit the Preferred Domain page, it considers my site un-Verified. If I leave that page, all is well in the other sections. However, if I attempt to Verify on the Preferred Domain page then it blows away my Verification for all other WMT sections. There are repeated posts going back weeks on Google's groups WMT forum, with absolutely no response from anyone at Google in the forums. Yay. Sean

| Same problem here apart from the fact that I have deleted "http:///" four times but it keeps returning for one domain. Four of my sites home pages have been removed from the index for 11 days now and I have assumed this was why I am getting the varification errors.
