only subdomains showing in results

My domain name (www.example.com) has completely disappeared in the google search results.

When I search for my keywords, my site still comes up futher back in the results, but it is using one of my subdomains (www.example.com/xx)

Why would just my main site disappear? I can't see it anywhere. Even when I do a site:www.example.com search on google.

[edit reason] use example.com - it will not ever be owned [/edit]
