Google News Archive search [news.google.com]

Doesn't seem to be very many archived stories at the moment, but will most likely grow.

I think it's a fantastic initiative.

It is essentially worthless. It is so far behind that it does not have Google News articles posted three months ago. You would think they could at try to keep it current.

Actually it's incredibly useful for certain purposes. It indexes a variety of news archives dating all the way back to the 1700s. Most of the articles are paid-access, but even the free snippets can be quite valuable.

Google demands quality from webmasters and then puts up something that is "incredibly useful" for news all the way back to 1700's and yet it can't keep current events current.

Stuff from the 1700's is just beyond medieval history.

Maybe news put up this year will have to wait 300 years to be incredibly useful.
