I don't think it's an update as such, or at least what people see is not intended.
The site I mentioned earlier is an established domain, squeaky clean only natural links, no exchanges etc, no ads or affiliate etc
it is bluewidgets.com
and has been dumped for 'blue widgets' and everything else so I doubt this is their intention.
I wonder if they are just updating or refreshing their index or something like

hold tight, if lucky, your site will recover after a bunch of months. I know exactly how that feels. Google does not seem to care for real content.
We have gone in and out without any changes.

Very optimistic statement ;o) - "a bunch of month" without adsense imcomes could be deadly for someone...
In Germany near 90 % of people uses google. The last days shows me: We should begin to fight against the Google monopoly as soon as possible, because we know at this time, how strongly our lives depending from them.
With search.live all positions are wonderful, but nobody are interested to search by msn or yahoo here.
[JOKE ON]If search.live would have 90% in Germany, I would be rich for sure (and then I would ban all Google ads from my pages). :O)[JOKE OFF/]
With no serious competitors, Google can take the liberty fur bugs like this at any time. Perhaps we should recommend ohter search engines with less supernova-bugs to our cutstomers in the future?!

Whoever relies on Google search and adsense should better face reality and look for other income sources.
G is THE monopoly that other engines would love to break. But when it comes to traffic, their capabilties are obviously not in anyway competitive.
It is 100% up to Google search designers, where this world is surfing to. They do not even care at all about "best content" because they rule Internet traffic since years.

Looking at the SERPs our positions seem to be somewhere between where they were prior to the previous update, and where they were after that update. Kind of in the middle. For example, one deep keyword I keep track of as a sort of measuring stick was #140 2 updates ago, then it was #110 after the latest update, and now it's #121 as of like Thursday.
This morning it's now #113. It's more like a constant shuffling than an update.
Now it's #111, what's going on? :)

Same issue here with a twist. We had about 50 pages that were ranking very well for the last 2 years get put in supplemental on the 15th.
6:17 pm on Dec 18, 2006 (gmt 0)
We had a page that went from page 1 on google where it bounced btwn #4 - #6 for the last year. Now its #89. The other day it was bouncing. One minute we were back on page 1 the next we were no where to be found. Hopefully this is not a perm thing.

The absolut total madness
I earsed the folder 3 years ago
This page has 0 links, it's only indirect called by the AdSense search box
3.) a google earth place mark file
4.) cgi.example.com a contact form having only 1 link from the calling page
I think at this state, I should give up any further attempts to satisfy the mad Google god.
I think no Google search engineer knows any more what happens.

Did those site: results just show up with the Dec 15 changes for you?
Starting June 27th, site: shows strange results
later it seemed to be fixed, even under a penalty to show a noremal sequence.
Since December 15th site: is again reversed,
the most irrelevant pages are on top, all what is relevant is supplemental.

After June 27th : Eventhough i am a good follower of google god, every 10 to 15 days a month G god thinks that i am not a good devotee. Google god giving it's blessings only for 10 days a month.
Hi Pray to G God to give it's blessings all the 365 days a year.

Now who knows..?

Just checked my great results with the date of the cached page
Oct 1 [Apache default when index.htm is erased]
May 13 [Apache default when index.htm is erased]
Seems the oldest pages in cache have the highest relevancy,
even when they are deleted index.htm or Google Earth place mark files.
I made December 6th a change in the navigation.
Instead of random links to the news now links to the picture on the page in high resolution
site:example.com "The new link text"
I get nearly 2000 results.
So around 50% of the pages are new indexed with the new link text.
At this, I get shure very new cache dates, since this is only since December 6th

This morning I began to delete all unnecessary files and pages from the google cache manually by using this link: [services.google.com:8882...]
In the site: caches pages were listed which are are not existing since many many weeks and they obviously are still influence the actual ranking :O(
The bad pages were only for 2 Days online (Sept. 27/28) and obviously still cocking up my positions. The clou: No links has shown on those pages at any time! It must be the toolbar. These pages are shown in no other search engines, but google. Thanks a lot for spying out my pc-system and further validation and indexing of pages which are forbidden for google.
I've lost many thousand bucks hereby with that ******* joke engine.
9:40 pm on Dec 22, 2006 (gmt 0)
Just discovered an other joke, what Google finds the most relevant 74 results from several thousand pages.
My PSA replacement files.
The URL for this files is only written in the Google AdSense code
as the PSA public service ad replacement.

They have also listed my WS_FTP-Logfiles and many other sh*t which never was hyperlinked in the web. And all files which are listed by command site: intermixes the domain content and thus influences the ranking and are destroying my adsense incomes.
A very good job by Aunt Google, very progressive and professional...
P.S.: One day before Yesterday I've tried to contact them by using the reinclusion request form and asked for checking that.

I think big G is doing some updating. Once again it shows all sites "not" in the index but they are .
Seems like a hickup for G right now, don't panic it may settle down soon.
All my sites show "not" in index but still rank good. My Mother's main site has lost some positions but is still in the index even though it is showing as not there.
I have seen this in G many times before. We just need to not panic and let G finish what they are doing and then see how we rank.
10:15 am on Dec 24, 2006 (gmt 0)
At leas they have removed that bloody stuff now, after I've used the urlconsole. But I guess, they still influences the ranking. How long does it take to validate the domain renewed and spend out the new results?

Like everybody else I am "amazed" with what is going on with Google, and has been since June.
It seems that they can't get their s**t together and is trying out one thing after the other and don't care about sites that get hit by their BETA testing.
The last thing I have seen, except for all the mess with the search results and sitemap-crap is that My Adsense is all screwed up also.
There is a place where you can see errors and I suddenly see a lot of erros in there and it says my robots.txt denied access or something similar. What I do NOT understand is that the files my robots denied access to are not MY files, the files are CACHED files from google. Now, does that make any sense at all? are they all f**ked right now?
My site got hit badly in June, came back in August for a month and then disappeared again in September. It was gone until late November and has actually been back since then BUT what is going on now is it rolls in and out in the serp's every day. Up and down and up and down.... and in and out.... makes no sense at all, just like everything Google does right now.
Been to MC's blog but like always, he doesn't give any explanations to what is happening. Just excuses saying "We're like a big family. Great people who never yells and immediately understands what we need to do". Boy are they just great, or what?
Edited: (because I forgot this one:) In the sitemaps I told them that my preferred domain was www and not the non-www, and what happened? Of course I see a lot of non-www in their search results now.... Ass backword as usual!
11:30 pm on Jan 1, 2007 (gmt 0)
Something is happening. Google drop many pages of my site today. This morning I saw site:mysite.com, 2400 pages indexed, like 3PM, again site:mysite.com, 900 pages index, now around 8PM, 620 pages.
Also I can see a big update in top ten search keyword in Google, I saw now spam blog websites.
"Working hard for Big Google"
11:33 pm on Jan 1, 2007 (gmt 0)
When we say that Google "makes no sense" we are really saying that WE can't make sense of what we notice. I'm sure that internally Google makes lots of sense to themselves, but they also can't tell us all about their internal workings. They certainly do more explaining than the other majors do, but that doesn't mean that the gaps in our understanding are not uncomfortable, especially when we lose traffic and income.
I think it's becoming clear that the recent changes are not piecemeal, exclusive to one date or one week at a time -- but rather they are part of some bigger picture that we only see hazily right now. So I'd like to focus our discussion and analysis in just one thread, so we hae some chance of seeing the broader pattern. Let's all meet over there:
