Hi guys,

I'm stumped and I need some more things to check. My site is not showing up for any searches that it was showing up for before - except a search for the name of the site and a few very obscure searches.

A site: command shows all pages are still indexed. Don't see any problems with googlebot, the only SEO that I use is what is reccommended by Google, I use descriptive meta tags that reflect the content of the page, try to get relevant sites to link to me, stuff like that.

I've been over all of the outlinks and inlinks, I see some spammers linking to me but nothing big. I checked at copyscape, 2 sites have copied some text, but no big deal. There are no www issues or duplicate content issues except I did have a paragraph of copyright info that appeared in the footer of each page. I removed that just in case.

A lot of the site is original illustrations with not a lot of text on the pages, that might be a problem, but these pages were showing up before. Around 25% of the pages say "supplemental result" when I do a site: command.

This site has been online since 2002, was getting around 100 refferals a day from google, has 300 backlinks according to siteexplorer and has about 400 static pages so it was pretty easy to look over, I've been over it again and again for 2 days and I can't find a thing wrong with it. What else can I check for? Should I email Google?

Thanks :0)

There have been many similar reports of rankings disappearing in the last several days, the best thing to do for now might be to wait a little while until things settle down.

My site is experiencing the exact same thing for 3 weeks now. Happens in cycles. I agree, wait it out, your traffic will eventually come back. And then eventually disappear again :-¦, and then...

Have you recently submitted a site map/added AS?

No sitemap. I want one but I'm waiting until everyone agrees that it's safe. And I have had adsense on the site for a couple of years...

I wouldn't have said anything but the site is going to be five years old next year. Isn't that a little old to be dropping in and out like that? And it's not just moving around it's gone for 99% of the searches that it was showing up for before. I've seen sites flucuate and lose up to maybe 60% and go back and forth but this seems different. I think it will come back too, just wish I knew how to prevent these things. The site doesn't have a ton of backlinks so I'm just going to work on that and see...

This probably needs a little more analysis.

Are you effected on regional DC's?
Are you effected equally on "tail terms" and "trophy keywords"
What are your meta's and H1 tags saying - are they agressively aligned, or , are they not aligned.

I saw another recent post where a site's results "bounced" back, but maybe you should take this as a signal that requires greater scrutiny.

Yeah because what if this happens to my main site. I'm one of those without a real backup plan.

Are you effected on regional DC's?

I don't know how to check that - that's something I should learn.

Are you effected equally on "tail terms" and "trophy keywords"

I think so, what I'm doing is looking at my stats for October and I don't show up for any terms today that I did then. (I haven't checked every single search because there are a bunch) But for the ones that I checked I have clicked back to page 10 of the results and I don't see my site at all so it seems to be not just dropped back but gone.

It will show up for the title of the site and I can get it to show up for long strings of text in quotes and maybe a few obscure terms where the total of all results is like 7.

Factbites copied around 13 pages of my site with 15% to 50% of my text for each page so they show up in front of me now on those searches.

What are your meta's and H1 tags saying - are they agressively aligned, or , are they not aligned.

I don't use any H tags and my metas have the keyword once in the title, once in the description, and once in the keywords- sometimes I use both the singular and the plural of the keyword in one or all of my 3 meta tags.

I have recently made a myspace profile and I link to my site from there but only two links - one image and one text.

I also recently added one of those image redirects because I have lots of people linking to my images but I still show up the same for google image searches - that's where most of my traffic is coming from now.

What else? I don't know.

This sitemap thing needs some investigation. Is it possible that spammers are searching google sitemaps to gain a list of urls to scrape?
