Certainly in the UK, it's common for broadband suppliers to offer free web space which is addressed as http://subdomain.example.com/user/
I've been looking at two of these sites that are underperforming. In fact, in one case, Google's sitemap console says "there are no pages in Google's index". Both are sitemapped and verified via a metatag.
There's been a bit of Usenet peer review and no one can suggest a reason. Absolutely straight HTML - no trickery whatsoever. One suggestion is that http://subdomain.example.com/ returning a 404 might be a problem.
I've tried searches in Yahoo, MSN, Ask and Search for both domains. The keywords are close to unique (local geographics) and the SERPs positions are all within top 5 - many #1 - in all four SEs.
Neither site is findable on Google.
If anyone has access to a site like this, can you see if you have disparate SERPs performance in Google versus other SEs?
