|Big swing in pages indexed|
noticing big swings in pages indexed and supp's

I have a small site with about 450 pages. Yesterday, I will thrilled to see that about 440 pages were indexed when using the site: command. But, many of the pages were supplemental.
Today, when I checked the number of pages per the site: command showed 220 pages, but when I looked to see the pages - Google only returned 83 pages.
Is anyone seeing the same affects on their sites with Google. Thought that comments by GG and Matt Cutts these situations would be well on their way to resolution.
Would appreciate thoughts from forum members on this.

I see counts of 115,000 then 14,000 ... then an hour later 114,000 ... then later again in that day back down to 14,000 ... this has been going on for at least a week for me.

If you check the IP address for each result (there's a FireFox extension called ShowIP that will do this easily for you) I'd guess you will see that the switching of your pages indexed number involves different data centers.

i am seeing the huge number fluctuations on the same data centre address url's day to day - hourly to hourly sometimes. all the updated supplementals to 2006 are all back to 2005, for me anyway, across all data centres. page count drop from 173,000 to 4,200 and everything in between depending on the hour of the day you hit - using same url data centre address. this has been happening for the last 3 days, in my case.

The crazy results began on Sunday. Many of my pages that went missing since March returned but all were supplemental. Results began changing hour by hour. Now my site is back to where it has been since March and prior to Sunday. Many months ago I sent an email to google. Google responded and noted no problems or spam in my site but suggested that I submit a sitemap. Yeah, sure I will - considering that many have noted there entire site went supplemental post sitemap.

About a year ago, one of my sites that had approximately 1,100 pages - all orginal content - 1,500 to 2,500 words per page average, fell to 21 pages, 14 supplemental, then it "stabilized" at 9 pages no supplemental. Today, it increased to 45 pages - no supplemental.
A small improvement, I agree. But it was good to see any movement at all.
I have been experimenting with Ann's channel theory and reorganizing the site, so I'm not sure if these actions are the reason that more pages are included.
As usual with G, who knows why things change.
